Dialogue remains well prioritised (even the obviously dubbed / ADR work), taking precedence where required, whilst effects enjoy the bustle of the Hong Kong streets, the car noises, crowds, splashing across boats, and - of course - the painful body blows that dominate the fight sequences and land with suitably engaging LFE impact. Probably the most expensive ‘standard’ edition I’ve bought, but definitely my favourite Jean-Claude Van Damme film.

Skin tones are rich and healthy, black levels rich and inky yet not smothering all that fabulous shadow detail, and the 4K presentation takes years off this now 35 year old flick, leaving the pain, almost comedic facial expression of Van Damme and antagonist Bolo Yeung looking clearer than ever. Van Damme's had a hell of a career - cheap but endearing apocalyptic sci-fi action in Cyborg, double Van Damme craziness in Double Impact, TimeCop, Maximum Risk and more, almost hitting the big time alongside Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier, with his John Woo actioner Hard Target one of the finest in his filmography.
