About this deal

Olive’s Toniebox is used everyday in our household, either as part of her bedtime routine or (increasingly) during the day when Olive wants to listen to music or a story. Furthermore, despite buying the box for Olive when she was only one, I still feel like we’ve had plenty of use from it, and this will only continue as she grows older and her attention span expands.

Tonieboxes are designed for children aged three years and up, although I'd say that they can be used by younger children, too. My children have used them from around the age of a year and a half, when they particularly enjoyed the musical Tonies and songs. Obviously, the older they get, the more engaged they will be with all the stories available. What Is The Point Of A Toniebox? When the lights turn green it will automatically play. If they flash blue this means the content is loading, just wait for it to turn green. Having said that, we rarely buy new ones and instead ask for them for Olive’s birthday or Christmas. As she’s only two, she has no idea she could have more and so for now, the spend is under control. I do fear, however, that as she grows older, her demands for new Tonies may well increase. 2. Can Be Clunky

Tonies are the characters you can place on top of the Toniebox speaker and they contain audio content. Once they’re placed in the square on top of the Toniebox that content will load up onto the speaker, and your child can listen to it all the way through or skip along chapters as they wish. The free content includes songs and stories. At the time of reviewing this there are 21 free items in the Library on my app. What are the best Tonies? Here’s everything you need to know about the Toniebox speaker, stories and more. What is the Toniebox? They’re not quite small enough to be swallowed, but it wouldn’t be ideal for them to be chewed on or stuffed in the mouth of a teething child. In my view with any electrical devices such as this one you would want to keep a close eye on younger kids particularly. But where Toniebox loses points is with the potential for lost Tonies and the free content when compared to the Yoto Player.

There are SO many options when it comes to Tonies and my son is now so obsessed that whenever he falls in love with a new book, film or TV show, straight away he asks me to see if it also exists in Tonie form. The Yoto features a screen with a pixel graphic display, whereas the Toniebox just has a few simple lights on the top. Yoto Cards vs Tonies Below is my Toniebox review focused on using it with a toddler (1 – 2 year old). Coming with a hefty price tag, here are my honest thoughts on whether the TonieBox is really worth the money. They kids also use the smart speak to ask Alexa questions. Admittedly, sometimes they are silly questions but sometimes they are educational questions or they’ll ask what the weather will be like or what time it is. They love doing this, especially Joseph as he can’t tell the time but the Alexa gives him some independence. The Toniebox is a robust (mine have been thrown around the room and into various car boots many times) music and story box. The square Toniebox is an audio player that's really easy to operate (for tiny hands, too). You buy Tonies (there are over 200 available) which are really cute characters that the child then places on top of the Toniebox to start playing that particular story (musical Tonies are also available).

For example, and this may just be a question of taste, I’ve found some of the lullaby Tonies to really grate on me, with the singing voices being not as high quality as you might expect. The Toniebox was created by Patric Faßbender and Marcus Stahl, who say they “wanted to create a way for children to experience storytelling in a digital age that stimulates their imagination while being educational and fun but also, and this was the main point, a screen-free experience”. As we suspected, how we use our TonieBox has changed dramatically over the last year or so. Initially, we used the box for Olive’s bedtime routine – playing lullaby Tonies as we put her to sleep. As she’s gotten older, however, Olive has started to play with the Toniebox independently, using it throughout the day to listen to music or her favourite Julia Donaldson story. The content on the Tonies isn’t just voices reading a book. For example with The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom Tonies there’s also music and sound effects as the story unfolds. It really brings the story to life!To neatly conclude this Toniebox review, I would say that this clever and durable audiobox is worth the investment. Since the early 1900s, the experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute have been testing, evaluating and ranking consumer goods so that families have guidance in selecting trustworthy products for their homes. Cleaning experts rank appliances such as the best canister vacuums, fiber and textile experts assess products including the best mattresses and the pros in our Beauty Lab write up the best night creams and more. This Tonie figure will introduce your child to the device – once you’ve gone through the setup process – but does not feature any content. However you can add some free content from the My Tonies app! Toniebox is an audio-storytelling machine for ages 3 years+. The sweet spot for the content and the characters is probably about ages 3 to 8. Parents might want to play some things, like the lullabies, for younger kids, and some older kids might still be into the audio tales and songs. But generally, once elementary school kids can read and enjoy chapter books and tune into popular music, their interest in the content will likely wane. In the US, there are currently 27 Tonies on sale, with more coming this year (there are over 65 in the UK). You’ll find everything from Julia Donaldson’s classic kids’ stories to Disney hits like Aladdin, Frozen and Finding Nemo. There are also nature sounds and white noise albums to help ready little ones for bed.
