About this deal

At 52 quarts, this BMX model has a generous capacity that is equivalent to 83 12oz cans. Plenty of space then for a few days away.

It’s good to see that Igloo has carried a lot of the features over from the BMX 72 to its smaller and cheaper cousin. The T-latch rubber catches add to the tough appearance (and make it look like a cheaper Yeti), there are tie-down loops to keep it secure in your trunk and plenty of patterned stainless steel to provide both style and more importantly, protection. On the other hand, the BMX cooler cost a fraction of its rotomolded counterparts, and, what we said before, it's a very light one. You lose something, you gain something… Very few cooler brands are able to save you money, be easy to use and perform for just about any situation at the same time, and that makes Igloo’s BMX Cooler series a priority if that’s what you’re looking for. Lastly, we really liked that Igloo has upgraded the cabinet design. They have become better now with options to divide the space into multiple sections. And do not forget the threaded drain plug that will help you empty the water from the ice at the end of the trip. This drain plug is garden hose compatible also. Igloo BMX 52 Quart Cooler Performance Capacity Despite being only a few months old, the BMX series has already garnered a couple of competitors that prove to be quite the challenge.

Expert Reviews

Bad weather and animals aren’t the only things that can do damage to coolers, as the sun can have an impact on not only how cool your food and drinks stay, but how strong the exterior of your ice chest remains. With four tie-down points and a molded fish measuring ruler, as well as class-leading performance and durable construction, the Igloo BMX 25 cool box is a great compact solution for angling and fishing trips. Igloo BMX 25 Heavy Duty Cool Box Features Igloo appears to be going through a bit of a facelift among its cooler lineups. As you can see from the many Igloo Coolers that we have reviewed in the past, their lineup is enormous. It can be hard to keep up with all of the products and the oftentimes subtle tweaks that they made to them each year.

Other notable features include tie-down slots, diamond plate metal inserts, and a molded fish ruler. These are pretty typical features found on most premium coolers. That said, another option would be the Igloo's own store, which is actually pretty good. The BMX series is available right here. The BMX option proves to be a reliable option for whatever event you have coming up, earning a 4.6/5 in performance from us, and our guide is here to let you know how it earned such a rating. However, the latter has a much heavier emphasis on usage in nature, as its bigger options are reserved for big game like elk and moose, making the BMX series more suited for fishing and small game, in addition to parties and tailgating. In the case of the large ones, the 52-quart, and the 72-quart one, we're talking about 4 to 5 days on average. If you adhere to some of tips on how to improve the ice retention in a cooler, then you should be able to extend the timeframe by another day.For the 2 larger Igloo BMX Ice Chest sizes (52QT and 72QT), replace the overhead carrying handle with gripped swing-up handles that have reinforced stainless steel. We typically recommend that these larger coolers be carried by 2 people (particularly if they are filled up with items). A really interesting comparison can be made when looking at Yeti’s Tundra series coolers and the Igloo BMX Coolers. Both are essentially targeting similar demographics, but they take a very different approaches in doing so. Features: Blow-molded construction, T-latches, Stainless steel hardware, Swing-up handles, Threaded drain plug, Skid pads, Fish ruler, Tie-down points, Cool Riser Technology

One thing to decide when you’re going for a larger-capacity cooler, though, is portability. As convenient as the space is, coolers will get much heavier when they’re loaded down. If you want a cooler that’s easier to carry around, consider one like the Arctic Zone Titan Deep Freeze Zipperless Cooler. It still provides space for up to 30 cans but keeps things lightweight with a canvas design. Starting with the construction of these coolers, Igloo utilized what they call “blow-molded” construction. As far as we can tell, this is very similar (if not the same) as roto-molding. Essentially, the cooler’s body is molded in a one-piece design. Taking away the need for having to glue/merge walls results in a much tougher cooler and it also assists in ice retention. Overall, we were impressed with the ice life that we experienced with the Igloo BMX Coolers. Depending on which model you go with and the amount of ice you use, you can expect anywhere from around 2 days of ice life up to nearly a week with the large 72QT model.

Some of the features that are a little more unique include a fish scale on the lid of the cooler and what Igloo calls their “blow-molded” construction. We suspect that this is just a fancy name for roto molding but we must admit that the name did catch our attention. This option is able to keep food and drinks cold for up to 4 days, thanks to a foam similar to that used by Igloo, and it comes with a leak-resistant design and an exterior that can handle the worst of weather conditions. However, Yeti’s options go way up from there, with its biggest cooler being the Tundra 350, which measures 24.75 in. x 23.25 in. x 63.5 in. on the outside and 16.75 in. x 17.75 in. x 54.625 in. on the inside. Like we said before, this makes the BMX coolers a better option for shorter camping trips and smaller game. Coolers come in varying sizes, even among specific brands and models. Determine upfront what you’re likely to carry in your cooler and how much room that will take. Some coolers offer 54 quarts of usable space inside, which totals more than 85 cans if you’re only using it to keep drinks cold. You’ll get between 65 and 70 quarts of space with some other models.
