About this deal

Please Note: For all treatments only a very small amount of Thornit Canker Powder is needed per dose. Care should be taken as the active ingredient iodoform could stain pale carpets or furnishings.

Thornit works by drying out the canker so we wouldnt recommend washing out his ears as you are wetting the powder. You can carry on using for a little longer for up to 10 days but if the problem hasnt been resolved by then it probably isnt canker or mites and you would need to speak to your vet again. The main ingredient is Iodoform which has a very distinctive medical smell that helps to discourage the mites. Boric is also one of the ingredients which acts as an effective antiseptic to help with the damage that may be caused through the animal constantly scratching. Zinc oxide is also added as a drying and curing agent that helps irritation and to stop the itch cycle. If your dog has a mite problem, then thornit will kill the mites and cure your dog. If thornit does not stop your dog from scratching and itching, then mites ARE NOT THE CAUSE A must have for all pet owners. An awful lot of owners have never heard of thornit but it is widely used amongst show owners as the only prevention of mites they need.

Testimonials

For breeds with long ears it is advisable to dip the ends of the ears in Thornit Canker Powder once a week.

Below are images of how to apply thornit. Simply dust a little amount of thornit around the ear hole. Gently massage the outer ear so that the thornit is dispersed. Mutneys Professional Pet Care Ltd accepts no liability for damage or loss caused by the misuse, negligence, alterations or repairs of any of our products. Apply just a tiny amount of cream or Vaseline to the finger of glove and dip into Thornit. Apply to just under tail where necessary.THORNIT is a formulation invented in 1907 by a Mr. Watchman, an Australian vet using a simple mixture which may lessen any irritation your dog may have. This formula was discovered and brought across to UK by Miss Bett and has stayed in the family since 1930s. Whilst many claim to know this formulation, it is a secret known only to the Bett family and has been handed down the generations. Get the animal in a good position lying on its side. With cats this can be difficult, and help may be needed. Give your pet some love, apply a pinch of powder using the end of a small spoon and lightly dust around the inner ear, avoiding the ear hole. Gently massage it in with your fingers from the outside. Relief comes with the first dose, but the treatment should continue for one to five days (usually three). When the brown wax starts to move, stop treating. This means the mite is dead and the wax will come away, pushing out the powder and leaving a clean ear. A pinch of Thornit powder in each ear once a week will keep your pet free from re-infection. The powder works rapidly when massaged gently just inside the ear surface, acting to eliminate wax caused by troublesome ear mites.

To clean your pet's ears: Never use cotton buds to clean your pet’s ears, you could do some serious damage. Clean your pet’s ears outdoors, or in a room where mess doesn’t matter, as they will probably want to shake dirty drops out of their ears! Use a good veterinary ear cleaner which comes in a bottle with a dropper at the end of it. You should aim to drop between 5 and 15 ml (1 tsp to 1 tbsp) into your pet’s ear, depending on the size of your pet. You need to get the liquid right down into the ear canal, so gently massage the area underneath the base of the ear. You should hear the liquid squelching if you are doing this correctly. Massage like this for about 20 seconds.I have personally been using thornit for over 20 years and it's an amazing product which I would never be without. If the animal drags its bottom on the floor and if it's not anal gland trouble, the mites could have made a breeding bed under the tail. Treatment: Apply a tiny amount of animal skin cream to the finger of a glove and dip into the Thornit Powder. Apply just below the tail where necessary.

I have been using Thornit on my Labrador now for 4 days. He has had ongoing ear infections for most of his life which I have spent a fortune on with various vet prescribed washes, drops and oral antibiotics, none of which have helped. So I thought I would try this. The wax (well brown yukky stuff) seems definitely to be drying up slightly, but there is still a lot of moisture when I massage his ear. The texture is changing to a more treacle like consistency. My question is (a) how long does this normally take to work and (b) do I need to wash his ears out with ear wash whilst treating him with Thornit? NatWest, RBS and Ulster Bank to close at least 172 branches in 2023/24 – here's the full list, plus alternativesFor all treatments only a very small amount of Thornit powder is needed per dose. Apply Thornit powder twice a day. Care should be taken as iodoform could stain a pale carpet or furnishings. In both cases the SYMPTOMSare scratching, head shaking, rubbing of ears on the floor and general distress. There can be red sores, imflammation and blood clots caused by constant scratching. The standard treatment of drops and antibiotics provided by vets gives only temporary relief. Product defects resulting from misuse, negligence, alterations or repairs, abnormal working conditions, general wear and tear and wilful damage will not be covered under any guarantee.
