A wonderful mix of various tactical motifs and a great assembly of exercises that really should be in every chess book collection. All of this is to say that a little bit of help on the way to the solution is not such a bad thing, but it might annoy people on the stronger end of the book's target audience. com) and unsurprisingly, it improved my chess a ton – especially compared to the random bs I had been doing before. If this celebrated observation is true for the master, how much more so for beginners and casual players! Then I saw if Qxd3, then the queen is no longer covering the c1 square so after Rc1+ Rxc1 Qxd3+ Ka1 Qxd4 is winning.n\nThis one is similar in both concept and appearance to Frank Erwich’s "},{"attributes":{"italic":true,"bold":true,"link":"https://www. I was thinking maybe I should start with the beginner's edition of the series instead, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that because I feel like the problems might be too easy.

n\nThis book would benefit not just the beginners of the title, but also inexperienced players, casual and lower rated players. First of all, I've never seen a tactics book that doesn't explain the basic concepts of the different tactics. g. by the time we reach chapter six – defend your pieces – we encounter the likes of picking the right square, trading the attacker, pinning the attacker, defending a critical square, protecting your piece and counterattack. Sharpen your tactics: 1125 brillant sacrifices, combinations and studies by Anatoly Lein and Archangelsky. If you are new to the game, check out /r/chessbeginners and before posting here please read our rules: https://www.This book certainly has some downsides for people who prefer puzzles to be mixed into one big pile with no help whatsoever, though almost a third of the book is dedicated to the "mixed motifs" sections. He is an experienced trainer of amateur players of all levels and has been the National Youth Coach of the Dutch Chess Federation. So back to the point, for those of you who have gone through this book, is it supposed to be this difficult? White initiates a combination that includes deflection and a pin; Black has no choice but to part with his rook to avoid checkmate.

It is your responsibility to make sure that your operating equipment is compatible with the relevant software or video DVD before purchasing and that software purchased is functionally adequate for your needs. Author Franco Masetti and International Master Roberto Messa do an effective job selecting informative puzzles that, when known by heart, make similar positions simple to navigate.

There are two types of books on tactics, those that introduce the concepts followed by a some examples, and workbooks that contain numerous exercises. But i kinda wanted some review from players, here, of what they thought on particular books i listed. Chess masters and trainers Franco Masetti and Roberto Messa have done both: they explain the basic tactical ideas AND provide an enormous amount of exercises for each different theme. Not tactical themes, but less leading themes like "defense and counter" or "endgames" and are gradually more difficult. discussed in the following chapters; for example, a discovery is no more than a sophisticated form of double attack.
