About this deal

Important! Let the topsoil dry out between waterings. Fungus gnats usually result from over-watering.

Soak mosquito bits in a gallon of water. Use this “dunk-mix” to thoroughly drench the plant when the top soil is dryAdult fungus gnats have a similar appearance to that of mosquitos because they are weak fliers. They have long legs and long antennae that are longer than their head. These long antennae distinguish them from one of their look-alikes, robust short flies who are like fungus gnats but are strong fliers. There are a few species that reach up to ½ inch long, while most adult fungus gnats are 1/16 to ⅛ of an inch long. Their wings are clear and grayish, and the Bradysia species has a characteristic y-shaped wing vein. Types of Fungus Gnats Even if your plant or leaves aren’t showing symptoms or distress yet, if you see fungus gnats it means that you have a problem with fungus and moisture in your soil. Don’t let the infestation get out of hand. It’s always recommended to get rid of any pests in the grow room as soon as you know they’re there!

Hydrogen peroxide soil drenches, neem oil, pyrethrin, beneficial nematodes, Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis Gnat larvae love raw potato, which makes potato slices a great, low cost way to measure how heavy the infestation is, as well as get rid of some larvae in the process. MethodIt’s the fungus gnat larvae in the soil that damage your plant roots and cause growing problems, especially to seedlings or young plants. Various methods of controlling or eliminating fungus gnats with biological pest control have been developed. For example, Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI) is known to produce proteins that can kill fungus gnats larvae and some other insects like mosquitos. [17] [18] [19] [14] BTI is a naturally occurring bacteria that has been used for decades—the United States EPA reports that it has no toxicity to humans. [17] Several dozen products containing BTI have been approved for residential, commercial, and agricultural use in the United States. [17] The israelensis subspecies is suggested because other types of Bacillus thuriniensis (BT), such as those for controlling caterpillars, are ineffective at controlling fungus gnats. [14]
