Then I saw an advert for these IO6 and the reviews seemed quite favourable so I thought why not give them a try. The DALI IO-6 headphones utilise a high quality custom designed driver with a large 50 mm diaphragm and an optimised neodymium magnet system to achieve low distortion, minimal colouration and accurate dynamics throughout the entire frequency range.

That’s impressive for a newcomer, and is in large part due to how good the passive isolation is; the earcups themselves create a good enough seal that many users honestly probably don’t need to turn on ANC all the time. The over-ear enclosures are braced and stiff like speaker cabinets, with rubber dampeners inside to eliminate vibrations. The result is a design with the right amount of adjustability required to provide a natural fit to anyone. Just plug in the included Mini Jack cable, and let your audio device run the DALI IO-6 in "Off" mode. Dali classify this passive mode as a fallback option, but the drivers are powerful with convincing sound which underpins the well thought out basic design.These are great-sounding headphones that offer a relatively flat frequency response and plenty of detail.

The ‘Features’ section seems as good a place as any to mention one or two features the IO-6s don’t have.

It’s as if the Dali’s are holding back slightly, giving us a sound that’s expansive and refined, but isn’t as emotional or zealous as we know it ought to be. The only difference is that this time I was listening to them passively plugged into my macbook pro with the Dali supplied 3. The end result is that the headphones are very comfortable — and easily wearable for hours-long listening sessions. We cue up Prince’s funk-heavy Sign ‘O’ the Times on Tidal and, despite an insightful treble and heartfelt vocal, we’re left waiting for that extra dollop of punch and drama through the bass registers – especially when the drums kick in. What I am really impressed with the most from these headphones, is the weight of the lower frequencies and depth. This works quite well with appealing results, even if the noise of the circuitry somewhat clouds the impression when music playback is switched off.
