About this deal

Twelve-year-old actress Phoebe Carlo (the first to play Alice) was personally selected by Carroll for the role. He wrote numerous stories and poems for children including the nonsense poem The Hunting of the Snark and fairy stories Sylvie and Bruno.

Witty, whimsical, and often nonsensical, the fiction of Lewis Carroll has been popular with both children and adults for over 150 years. Scholars debate whether Carroll in fact came up with Alice during the "golden afternoon" or whether the story was developed over a longer period. I purchased what was described as hard cover but it seems no different from other Barnes and Noble leatherbound books that I have purchased in the past. This volume features all the best-known works of Lewis Carroll, including the novels, ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking-Glass’, with the classic illustrations of John Tenniel. Noticing a door on a tree, Alice passes through and finds herself back in the room from the beginning of her journey. Released in 1903, the British silent film Alice in Wonderland was the first screen adaptation of the book. Fun-filled activities help children to fully engage with each story, encouraging a love of reading and building a range of skills. With its fantastical tales and riddles, it became one of the most popular works of English-language fiction.

A visitor to the Liddell home saw the storybook and thought it should be published, so Carroll revised and expanded it. With a brilliant introduction by Chris Riddell, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is one of twenty much-loved classic stories relaunched with gorgeous new covers.Re-reading it as an adult though, there are so many themes that resonate with today, and the ‘madness’ of our own world, that Alice can be channelled in trying to deal with the world and society. Carroll published a sequel in 1871 entitled Through the Looking-Glass and a shortened version for young children, The Nursery "Alice" in 1890. Included are: "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", "Through the Looking-Glass", "Sylvie and Bruno", "Sylvie and Bruno Concluded", "The Hunting of the Snark" and all of the poetry, essays and phantasmagoria along with a substantial collection of his miscellaneous writings. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This tome not only looks and feels opulent (from the leather cover to the golden-edged pages), it is also a great value-for-money tome, it includes all the adventures of Alice, loads of stories and interpretations and notes for committed Lewis Carroll enthusiasts.

When the Duchess ruminates on finding morals in everything around her, the Queen dismisses her on the threat of execution. Alice bears witness to a bizarre world that presents both dangers and delights as she grapples with what awaits her back in the real world. Published in Italian as Le Avventure di Alice nel Paese delle Meraviglie, translated by Teodorico Pietrocòla Rossetti.A ballet by Christopher Wheeldon and Nicholas Wright commissioned for The Royal Ballet entitled Alice's Adventures in Wonderland premiered in February 2011 at the Royal Opera House in London.
