Daar zijn drie redenen voor. Ten eerste konden de hoofdstukken waarin we Joekelhond volgen, me nauwelijks boeien. Heel veel bijzonders en belangrijks gebeurt daar nu ook weer niet in, en sorry, maar het boeit me echt niks dat hij nu ineens gevoelens krijgt en zo. Als personage om over te lezen door de ogen van een andere verteller, is hij best aangenaam, maar om hem zelf te volgen, nee, dat vond ik maar niks. Für mich war dieses Buch absolut lesenswert und ich freue mich jetzt schon auf die Fortsetzung. Aufgrund des Schreibstils, Spannung, interessanten Charaktere und Geschichte finde ich es für Jugendliche und aufwärts empfehlenswert. A very underwhelming addition to a first book that I wholeheartedly loved. Ah, well. I guess this just wasn't for me. I'm still considering whether to continue with this series. There just wasn't the depth, the complexity, the darkness, or the action that I loved so much in the first book. I really miss the character dynamics that felt so fresh but now feel shoved out of the main focus of the plot. Still, Six and Five's friendship has my heart. Laat ik maar eerlijk zijn: het duurde een tijdje voor ik in Boek 2 kwam. Over het algemeen sprak de eerste helft van het boek me minder aan dan ik had verwacht en gehoopt. Fireborn is a middle-grade book set in a fictional prehistorical world where different clans are protected by the Hunting Lodge a place where hunters live and train.

Aisling Fowler mixes in some of my favorite fantasy tropes that I can’t help be drawn to. We have animal companions, in the form of ‘Dog’ the stone guardian of the Hunting Lodge who is let loose as events happen in the book. He is the parent in the story, always being the light of reason and keeping the party in line. And then there is Widge the Squirrel, who is cute as anything, despite my aversion to squirrels.Feniks en het ijspaleis is een aanrader voor kinderen die graag verhalen lezen die zich in een andere wereld afspelen met bijzondere wezens of krachten. De snelheid van het verhaal en de opbouw van de wereld vragen wel wat meer leeservaring. Hoewel het zeker geen slecht verhaal is en wel degelijk vermakelijk, is dit fantasy verhaal niet uniek ten opzichte van andere jeugd fantasyboeken. Children are going to fall in lovewith this heart-stopping adventure, and I was withTwelve and Dog every thrilling step of the way’ Jenny McLachlan, author of The Land of Roar first of all the banter and dynamics between all the characters are so entertaining. since the characters are young they have that kind of immature kids humour that’s super entertaining. i say this because if i see teenagers or adults act this way i would roll my eyes. i laugh so much at these little interactions when it happens but also on top of that the characters are really complex with their own pasts and even their names that they are forbidden to share. they lose all their identities to train to be hunters. some of the characters are not who they seem and they are a lot more than meets the eye. when i re-read this book i’ll definitely be annotating it and underlining so much of the meaningful messages. Twelve is a fantastic character, and I really enjoyed her character arc. Twelve is complex, flawed,sometimes cruel, has aggressive outbursts and is completely socially incompetent, due to the fact that she cuts off those around her.
