About this deal

Roc-Loc® 5 fit systemThe industry benchmark in comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. In addition to enhancing the fit and comfort of helmets, Roc Loc® 5 allows you to easily custom tune the fit tension and the fore-aft tilt of the helmet in seconds using a single hand. And it’s lighter than comparable systems too, making it the ultimate in skull-hugging luxury. In-Mould Construction In-mould construction fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with the helmet’s impact-absorbing foam liner. The fusion process allows Giro to sculpt better ventilation systems, so In-mould helmets can be lighter and cooler than traditional helmets. One of the tradeoffs Giro makes here is providing improved durability by adding more structural support to the helmet while sacrificing a bit of ventilation. However, the Cinder receives overall average scores in the rating metric due to the amount of EPS foam that is exposed around the brim of the helmet. EPS foam is a more delicate material that the protective polycarbonate shell, and is vulnerable to bumps and scrapes if not properly cared for. Value

EPS foam can degrade and reduce its structural integrity. However, the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute Another factor that set Foray as the more comfortable option is probably the lighter weight so wearing them doesn’t feel like a task and for those who are used to heavier helmets, you may not realize they have been sitting on your head as well. Giro Cinder Vs Foray The last part we want to mention is the comfort but while most people’s heads seem to fit well using the adjustment they have, in our opinion they are not the best too for some people may experience difficulties when getting the best comfort from them. For the ventilation they are adequately breezy but in comparison we do think Foray is much more comfortable and able to channel wind inside properly than Cinder. They are very cool to ride at higher speed but as we slow down, the head can gets warmer. If you want to get a good helmet which is not only comfortable but also affordable, Giro Cinder and Foray are two amazing choices to consider out there. Both of them are a solid option for almost any road cyclist that in our opinion what sets them apart is probably on personal taste or choice and what makes many are so interested to have one of them is actually for the price point itself since despite being affordable, they are not far behind high-end models. Giro Cinder comes in at 168 USD with MIPS, or 129 USD without – contrasted with Giro Synthe which maximizes at 323 USD. What else is the difference between the two? Streamlined features, weight, and breathability.

Giro Synthe utilizes Giro’s Roc Loc Air maintenance framework which keeps the helmet marginally off the head, particularly at the front. This structure permits somewhat more wind stream over the temple. I don’t say that MIPS is bad, I do support every attempt to make helmets safer and looking at the way it works, it seems obvious that it could be very effective. But without some publicly available independent test reports to compare and prove its effectiveness, I remain skeptical.

Altogether, the Giro Cinder MIPS kinda begs the question, why spend more? It has top shelf features, a MIPS anti-rotational safety layer, is very comfortable, and looks fast. However, one of the other USPs of the Synthe has always been its ability to provide an aero lid that looks stylish - and the Cinder MIPS is anexcellent looking helmet with near universal appeal. Here, we can see the Cinder’s padding on the forehead area and at the top of the skull, as well as the MIPS liner and yellow elastomers underneath. The Giro Cinder and Ember MIPS are the little brother and sister of the Giro Synthe MIPS. Where the Cinder has been introduced as a men’s helmet, the Ember is introduced at a later point as a women’s helmet with only the esthetics to differentiate itself. The Cinder and Ember, different colors but the same helmet.

And two, I can fit into a medium Cinder but have to bump up to a large Synthe, and I prefer a smaller helmet than a wider one, pretentious roadie that I am.
