About this deal

That Boutique-y Whisky Company bottles exclusive single malts, grains and bourbons from renowned distilleries, and this release (with a limited run of just 420 bottles) is no exception. The liquid inside is as distinctive as the bottle branding, delivering bags of vanilla butterscotch, citrus, dried fruit and cinnamon. Despite the higher ABV, it’s deliciously smooth; so much so, we’d swerve the ice entirely and savour as is.

The Sexton Cocktails Archive – The Sexton

Lovely smooth whiskey bought for my husband for wedding anniversary. Great service from House of Malt. Bushmills is the world’s oldest licensed whiskey distillery, and its Causeway Collection is all about showcasing rare and unique cask finishes. Matured for 25 years in first-fill American oak rum casks, it's full of funkier tropical fruit notes (think: dried coconut and mango followed by sweet vanilla and warming spice.) It’s bottled at a cask strength of 46.2% and non-chill filtered for a memorable dram deserving of a spot on every epicure’s hit list.

The verdict: Irish whiskey

It may be summer, but if you’re looking for a whiskey that offers those classic Christmas flavours in liquid form, make it this. We’re talking citrus peel, dried fig, sweet sherry and a subtle smoked almond note that begs to be sipped fireside (though we’re not waiting that long, and neither should you).

The Sexton Single Malt Whiskey | Master of Malt

It’s hard to believe a whiskey of this billing began its story on the shelves of a single Dublin grocer. Now rightly enjoying global acclaim, it impressed our panel with its clean, floral-forward nose, bringing apple blossom, pear, honey and malt to the party. The bourbon and sherry cask maturation process imparts a fuller, spiced body, too — and they couldn’t get enough. Throughout the 19th century, Irish whiskey reigned supreme over its Scottish rival, before falling out of favour. While Scotch may still wear the crown today, the pioneering efforts of Emerald Isle distilleries have led to a recent resurgence in popularity. Single grain Irish whiskey: Made by mixing malted barley and other grains and produced in a column still, single grain whiskeys are noticeably lighter in taste and often have pronounced floral notes.Nose: hints of nuttiness, with an abundance of honey and fruity sweetness.. a bit of oak in there too. Blended Irish whiskey: Combines at least two of these styles and accounts for the majority of mainstream Irish whiskeys (think Jameson and Bushmills). As for what’s inside, perhaps owing to some of its unconventional production, this is indeed a rather unusual expression of Irish whiskey, even for a single malt. The nose is immediately a bit weedy, quite green and vegetal, but undercut with notes of savory spices — think rosemary, not cloves — and a slightly nutty, winey character. Give it some time, and the green character will fade a bit. When smelling The Sexton, you will detect hints of spice, fruits, marzipan and dark chocolate. On the palate, you’ll discover a very mild sweetness that slowly fades away, honeyed malt and oils coupled with a gentle wood finish. In addition to writing, he also proofs, edits, designs, lays out and publishes all the articles in the online magazine.
