About this deal

Now, you might be wondering if something like that could even factor into a “cozy” fantasy–and the answer is a resounding yes. I found the relationship to be frustrating and more often than not felt like I was being told things, not shown things. In a story brimming with hurt/comfort and quiet fireside conversations, these two women will discover just what they mean to each other… and the world. speaking of relationships, i was also disappointed in the fact that kianthe and reyna had a preexisting relationship.

It also centers two women so deeply committed to each other and to their dream in a way that just made my heart feel full.

Do you love reading books by the fire, warming your hands with a hot mug of tea, surrounded by beautiful houseplants and the cuddly embrace of your partner? Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea and A Pirate’s Life for Tea are both available to purchase in e-book from Tor UK who will publish the former book in hardback and other formats, with a new cover style, in spring 2024. side note: I feel slightly uncomfy with the fictionalization of bagels, which is a food that emerged out of antisemitism, and is incredibly important to Jewish culture/history, but it was only a short bit of the story! This last one may have been particularly jarring to me as I'm a Brit and it's such an well-known Americanism that I can't dissociate it from the modern real-world place of America.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

Reyna is a palace guard under the ruthless Queen Tilaine who runs away with her powerful mage girlfriend Kianthe. Furthermore, their lovey-dovey couples banter and flirting is just a bit nauseating - more like the author just wanted to depict a "perfect" lesbian relationship - which as a lesbian, I just found boring and mildly infuriating. Can't Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne is a gorgeous treat of a book, filled with cosy adventure, sapphic romance and good feelings.

if the characters already use the correct pronouns for every other character that uses she/her or he/him without having to have a narrative reason for it, why can't they also just use they/them for the characters with those pronouns? I do intend to give the second book in this series a chance, as I believe in authors improving their craft as they go and wonder if a book with a non-established couple may fare better for me, but I am still extremely disappointed with this one. Despite suppesdly being together for 2 years at the start of the book, the main couple have very little chemistry as the author tends to tell and not show. But Reyna belongs to an elite sect guarding a vengeful queen – and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. I didn’t know going into it that it was going to be a series but I’m definitely excited to continue.

are they having a conversation or is this a buzzfeed article on the top 10 ways to have healthier communication?
