About this deal

I have tested many ways to kill trees and Tordon is by far the most reliable way to kill trees and woody plants. Glyphosate will not leach into the soil and continue to kill plants. This makes it a much more easily controlled option for killing trees with herbicides. How Long Does Tordon Stay in the Ground?

Considering how effective this product can be, it’s one of the best tree stump killers for stopping tree growth and damaging the roots themselves. Plus, it’s not overly expensive considering the quantity provided. A nice feature about Tordon is that one application takes care of the problem. It doesn’t seem to matter what time of year you use the product; I’ve used it successfully in spring, summer, fall, and winter. The key is to apply the solution immediately after cutting down the tree.

How Long Does It Take For Tordon To Kill A Tree?

Once the roots have been poisoned, the tree stump gradually dies. It’s important to note that this is not a short-term solution to ridding your garden of tree stumps, and it can take several months to die. Our third product is the Roundup stump killer, a concentrate liquid formula, coming in a 250ml measurement. It kills Ivy, Japanese Knotweed, Saplings, Brambles and Nettles, in addition to being effective against larger Woody Weeds and Tree Stumps. However, what is more important than the sheer number of vegetation that the Roundup stump killer claims to be effective against is whether the product is actually effective. Too often I come across garden maintenance products which are all bark and no bite, but I’m happy to say that this is far from the case with Roundup. If you perform proper stump treatment with Roundup and do not spray surrounding plants directly then a Roundup application will leave nontarget plants and trees unharmed, while killing target plants down to the root. Is Tordon Safer than Roundup?

There are times when cutting down a tree is the only option, whether we like it or not. This is especially the case if the tree is diseased or posing a safety risk. Tordon remains active in the soil for up to 90 days, making it far more lethal to nearby plants than Roundup. However, Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, has been at the center of controversy due to its links to cancer in humans. Tordon has never been shown to be toxic to humans.

Does Tordon work in the Winter or Spring?

Glyphosate will not leach into the soil. Once it has entered a plant, it will not migrate to another plant. Another thing to keep in mind is that tree stumps can take an astonishing amount of time to decompose, with some taking up to ten years! Whereas glyphosate will kill all plant species (including grass and other vegetation that you might want to preserve), triclopyr is a selective herbicide aimed at broadleaf weeds, ivy and trees.

This Vitax SBK Tree Stump Killer is a good option if you’re looking for a chemical solution that doesn’t contain glyphosate.

Is Tordon Safe?

Both Tordon and Roundup may require reapplication to kill trees and brush. If a tree is still green, or if the cut tree continues to send forth new sprouts 10–14 days after application, perform a second treatment. Will Tordon Kill Surrounding Trees? This form of treatment usually takes longer than other products that work directly on the stump. Also, copper sulfate pentahydrate in the soil could damage the roots of other trees or plants near the stump. And once the tree stump is removed, you’ll need to replace the contaminated soil since this chemical remains in the soil for a long time. Pros

One of the things you can do is to dig the stump up. Another option is to get a stump grinding professional out to grind it down. You can apply Tordon on a dormant tree in the winter. However, if the soil is frozen or covered with snow, then the active ingredients in the herbicide might not be able to travel down to the roots of the tree. Also, keep in mind that the amount of Tordon will vary based on the tree size. Step 4: Inject Tordon Into The Tree In terms of its effectiveness, this product works well on woody growth – particularly ivy. As mentioned, several applications may be needed when treating tree stumps.
