About this deal

The net shot is a great response to the opponent’s drop shot; the drop being played from behind, the opponent is forced to run to the front of the court. When a receiving team wins a point and gets the serve, the team does not switch sides but serves from where they are standing. If they win the first service point, then the players switch positions from right to left.

In this feature I am going to concentrate on the top five badminton shots you should spend a lot of time mastering. Practicing and getting these right will go a long way into making you a competitive player. Understand the basics of play. Here's what you need to know before you start your badminton game, beyond the court information and the scoring rules: [3] X Research source Remember, whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, mastering one technique at a time is better than knowing a little bit of all the techniques.

This badminton drill is performed by locating boxes in different positions of the court. The aim should be to get as many shuttles in the boxes as possible. To make this more interesting, you can compete against other players and try to see who gets more shuttles inside the boxes. Another additional step to make it more interesting is to give a different value to the different boxes. For example, if you have boxes of different sizes, you can give the smallest size boxes more points as it is more difficult to hit the target with a smaller box. Multiple shuttles – Overhead strokes After you know how to play the basic shots in Badminton, moving on to the tougher and more technical shots becomes easier. The more advanced shots will be difficult to play if these basics aren’t thorough. Here are the four basic shots you must know- 1.Toss/ Clear- A shot is called a net brush shot when you hit the shuttle from the front of your court with a motion similar to the one of a windshield wiper. This shot is also sometimes called net kill swipe shot or net swipe shot. This is a very risky shot because you are getting very close to the net and any miscalculation can end up in a fault and, therefore, in a lost point. A shot is called a net kill shot when you hit the shuttle from the front of your court and you hit it in a downwards direction. This is a very offensive shot which, usually, you can only perform after you have gained a great advantage in the point. It usually means the end of the rally and a winning point, especially in singles because the court to cover is much bigger and your opponent is, most likely, not well positioned. These shots are used to drive your opponent into a precarious position, causing them to miss their next shot and grant you a point. Offensive shots are perhaps the only way to raise your score and win the match.

If any player attempts to (successful or unsuccessful) obstruct their opponent in any way, these contribute to a fault on that player. Servers must be able to get the bird over in their hit. If the bird get's attempted to be hit but is missed, a fault can't be charged. (Things do happen to the best of all people.)

The six more important shots to learn are the service, the clear shot, the smash shot, the net shot, the defense shot, and the drop shot. So, if you are a beginner, you should learn these first because they are the shots that have the highest impact on the game. It is important both in doubles and in singles, although it is more important in doubles. In singles, you can win a lot of points by moving your opponent around until you gain sufficient advantage to send the shuttle somewhere where he or she cannot reach it. A forehand smash with a timed jump added to it counts under jumping smash. This skill in badminton is the most glamorous of all. Drop Shot Image source: scoop.it
