About this deal

Over the week, Oliver finds carrots, spinach, rhubarb, cabbage, beetroot and peas, tries them and eats them all up.

He just love this book and often reading this story as this become one of his special story collection! Throughout the story you see the growth in Oliver’s eating habits, when eventually you see Oliver eating carrots, spinach, rhubarb, cabbage and beetroot. Vivian teaches part time at Edinburgh College of Art, and is one of the two founding members of the PictureHooks programme supporting Scottish illustrators. This book is perfect in encouraging kids that are having difficulty with trying new foods and for kids that are interested in gardening. These handy story sequencing cards are great for increasing and assessing familiarity with the main events in this story as well as for starting discussions about the different key points and story structure. Oliver is a fussy eater who would only eat chips and nothing else until he plays a game with his Grandpa. From major author Vivian French, this colourful seek-and-find tale puts the joys of healthy eating at the top of the menu. Small taste sessions after each new vegetable are a must and it really encourage children to become curious about new and exciting vegetables.

She has won many awards for her books, and is regularly invited to festivals including Cheltenham and the Edinburgh International Book Festival. The botanical definition of a fruit is a structure formed by a pollinated flower that contains the seeds. So, I decided to give this book a try, knowing that it would be lobbying for kids to eat their vegetables.

I remember them picking gooseberries in my in-laws' garden; it didn't persuade them to eat the gooseberry crumble! I recommend this book to young children as it is a new, funny alternative to approach the subject of healthy eating, and the pictures will allow children to be inspired as a result of it. An excellent book for parents with slightly fussy children, which also introduces the days of the week. We have an array of resources and activities that go wonderfully in conjunction with the brilliant storybook.
