About this deal

Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Year 1 in a zip file based on Nadia Shireen’s, ‘The Bumblebear’ focusing on retrieval and inference skills. It was the unanimous favourite for its quality of storytelling, relatable school setting, a lovely message of inclusivity, and its ability to be read aloud in a lively manner. The colourful illustrations are super sweet and lend to the feeling of bees being playful, happy little souls. I hope reading about Norman's adventures at Bee School raises a chuckle or two, but mainly I'm delighted that so many children will be forced to own one of my books - whether they like it or not! I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!

Norman’s adventure starts off in quite a cheeky way, and we love how the story unfolds to reveal just how wonderfully kind he actually is. Like Billy, Norman (and Amelia) are imbued with persistence and wide- eyed, colourful determination. It is against copyright to take and reproduce the text/pictures directly from a published book, so we always try to use our texts for the units based on the original. This funny and fantastic picture book was given out for free to every Reception child in England in 2017.

Not only that, but Nadia's trademark humour and sense of fun make it a laugh-out-loud experience fit to inspire a lifelong love of reading. She studied law at university and then worked in magazine journalism; it was during this time that she started to draw again.

This picturebook is charming, adorable and funny, and it also has a really lovely message about choosing your own identity and being who you want to be, not who other people think you are (or should be). It explains that it’s okay to be different and you shouldn’t have to be a particular mould to fit in.Then there’s Norman and his impulses… Bookwagon adores the picture books of Nadia Shireen and recommends T he Bumblebear highly. It seems her imagination and humour tickle us so that we want to soak up the optimism and creativity! Her debut book, Good Little Wolf, received a mention in the Bologna Ragazzi Opera Prima Award and won the UKLA Book Award. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc. A happy ending prevails though when Norman saves the colony from a fierce bear by pretending to be the giant bee again scares the bear off and all the bees welcome him back as the Bumblebear.

Through ourTime to Read programme, we give every Reception pupil in England their own book to treasure and share at home. BookTrust Chief Executive Diana Gerald said: Finding the time to read together as a family can have dramatic effects on a child's wellbeing and development. One can be found in a birdcage in a cabin in the northeastern area of the map, south of the S on the compass. He thoroughly enjoys the lessons and learns all sorts of useful skills, such as buzzing, waggly dancing and even flying. This is a super story to read with pre school and early years and would also be enjoyed by KS1 children. After a lifetime of doodling in the sidelines, Nadia decided to pay some attention to drawing and in 2007 was accepted onto an MA course in Children's Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. BookTrust is fantastic at turning kids into readers and, crucially, they reach those kids who can't access books so easily.
