About this deal

At the Mountains of Madness is one of the primary expository works about the Old Ones, here dubbed the “Elder Things” by the explorers as they stumble upon more and more evidence. I wouldn't watch a Roman Polanski film in which the protagonist raped a 13-year-old, and the protagonists here often serve as mouthpieces for Lovecraft's racist views (and no, "he was a product of a racist society" does not and should not excuse him). The main human character of the story is Professor Nathaniel Wingate Peaslee, who unexpectedly finds his own consciousness linked to that of a Yithian. We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use. As more details of the creature and its history come to light, our narrator realizes that no one can possibly be safe from such a powerful entity — not even himself.

THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH is yet another effective horror story set waist-deep in the Cthulhu mythos, and from what I’ve heard, a favorite of many Lovecraft aficionados.Firstly, HPL believed in a crude Social Darwinism/Eugenics married to a virulent racism/xenophobia and a despicable classism. Dok Danički užas je na sva zvona nahvaljen, jeste dobra složena priča sa dobrim likovima ali jednostavno meni u trenutku nije prijala, stoga planiram da je u budućnosti ponovo pročitam i možda joj povećam ocenu. When reading Necronomicon or any of his works all of these elements become impossible to ignore and are, virtually, shouted from the pages/screens. The paper is not premium but it is good quality and one thing that was pointed out to me when I showed those books to my mother is that the letters are quite small, I didn't notice it really and I'm already half way through the first book.

If you’re looking for a literary review, I haven’t read all of Lovecraft’s works, so don’t expect that here. It might be just as well that this is the case; the invocation of a reality-warping and vengeance-seeking ‘ancient one’ is probably not the type of s--t that I need going on during my weekend, especially when the alleged banishments of these unfathomable horrors are deemed wholly ineffective.

But when the old man disappears soon after, our hero realizes that he could be next… though at the hands of humans or monsters, he can’t be sure.

P. Lovecraft's astonishing tales blend elements of horror, science fiction, and cosmology that are as powerful today as they were when first published. R. James) becomes involved in a controversy surrounding strange, seemingly extraterrestrial sightings. When he awakens, Houdini isn’t fazed, easily slipping out of the ropes in which he’s bound (clearly the kidnappers didn’t know who they were dealing with).I’ve enjoyed reading these tales this past month and I really looked forward to my lunch hour at work because I could read my next Lovecraft story. After restoring it, Delapore soon discovers that something isn’t quite right about the place and, prompted by scurrying noises in the walls, decides to investigate. Seemed pretty confused to me - kind of borrowed from lots of sources and then threw everything in one bowl of 'occult salad' with lots of H. And if you're hungry for more, you can always check out our guide to cosmic horror, the subgenre his works helped establish.

Lovecraft instead creates a vision of a vast cosmos completely indifferent to humans, and their earthly bullsh*t, filled with forces before which we are helpless, which we cannot hope to understand, and which would destroy our minds if we only saw or knew. I totally understand the "Jaws" method of horror, wherein the less you see of the monster, the more effective it is.Now we’re getting into the “Dream Cycle,” a series of works in which Lovecraft explores the supernatural through dreams and the subconscious. That said, I’d really only recommend it for hardcore fans of Lovecraft; for everyone else, there are far better—by which I really mean far shorter—ways to get acquainted with him. Deeply steeped in the Cthulhu mythos, this story is a prime example of how curiosity can kill a cat.
