About this deal

Small diameter flexes and some cordgrip designs result in the plug cordgrip failing to grip the flex. This can be remedied by putting the flex 360 degrees round the cordgrip before tightening, like so: Let me make a disclosure here: I once worked for a large German connector company, and my current employer is a spin-off that maintains close “connections” with said company. I documented tidbits that I gleaned on connectors working on several projects in the industrial sphere over the years in two blogs: “ Which PCB Connectors Are Best?” and “ Unusual connectors.” The point is that this kind of exposure may possibly limit my knowledge as to all of the different ways there are to connect two (or more) ends of wire. Based on this, I hope that other members of the EEWeb Community will add their suggestions in the comments below. Depending on the design, a flat-blade screwdriver, a cross-blade screwdriver, hex key, Torx key, or other tool may be required to properly tighten the connection for reliable operation.

Scottish Highlands, areas which we class as zone 1 are post codes: AB30-38, AB44-56, FK17-99, G83, IV1-28, IV30-32, IV33-39, IV52-54, IV63, KW1-14, PA21-33, PA34-40, PH18-26, PH30, PH31-41, PH49-50Flex ends need twisting and folding over before use, and should not go in the same hole as cable, or the flex connection can be weak and electrically inadequate. Lone cables going into a connector terminal are bent double to ensure good grip. MICC It was the only truly fire surviavble cable available just after the London Underground Kings Cross Fire. Choosing the right type of connector for your application, you should consider current requirements, voltage requirements, wire being used, mechanical strength and the environment.

Over the last 70 years I have seen house and factory wiring practice change, but there are plenty of legacy installations in Britain which should be immediately scrapped if they were inspected now. Crimping makes a connection reliable enough to be permanently buried. A good crimping tool is needed, cheap non-ratchet pliers don't make an acceptable joint. See crimp. Wire nuts (Figure 2) come in many colors and sizes. Your home probably has dozens of them hidden behind the walls. A wire nut consists of a truncated cone made of some kind of insulator; embedded inside is a screw thread. You take the two stripped ends of wire, insert them into the cone, and twist. The wire nut will, in fact, allow grossly mismatched wire gauge, a mix of solid-core and multi-strand wire, and allow you to join two, three, or even four wires. Provided that the bared portions of the wires are within the insulated cone, there is complete isolation. However, the joint itself is not very strong and tugging can cause it to come apart, which means that you should consider if mechanical stress is likely to occur in your application. On the plus side, it can also be unscrewed to allow for modifications. As acceptance engineer I felt I should be able to terminate the MICC myself if I was going to downgrade or condemn an installation.
