About this deal

It is quite hard to define the essence of Shrigley’s art – until you visit his studio and realise he draws and paints all day long. It's a beautiful celebration of women's practice and the matrilineal knowledge transfer that takes place in western Arnhem Land, through weaving: the passing down of stories; the passing down of techniques; the passing down of the magical recipes that go into creating the beautiful dyes," says Russell-Cook. As well as our production site in Worthing, we also have a tower brewery in our tiny Brighton brewpub, the Hand in Hand. Playmode' is a group exhibition at Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), Lisbon that explores the connection between art and play as methods to promote new ways of seeing. Yet my morbid desire to find the darkness in this happy character is gratified when he does finally admit to a more hidden, personal drive to his art. Whilst I say I’m a pretty happy person, I’m also an introvert, and introverts often tend to be quite anxious, I think.

For Art BaselMiamiBeach Online Viewing Rooms, Stephen Friedman Gallery’s presentation ‘In Real Life’ focuses onfigurationand depictions of the human form through painting, sculpture and works on paper. On the occasion of its twenty-fifth year at Art Basel, Stephen Friedman Gallery presents a group exhibition that highlights key milestones in the gallery’s history and its longstanding relationship with the fair. Shrigley prefers to point to the formal structure of his work, and the philosophical humour it embodies. This volume celebrates Shrigley's absurd, deadpan sensibility through both his signature drawing style and accompanying text. Included in the presentation is David Shrigley's 'The Bell', 2007, on loan from the Arts Council Collection, UK.

Shrigley lives in the countryside in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and drives into town to work here, at a simple drawing table. Featuring Marina Adams, Melvin Edwards, Tom Friedman, Wayne Gonzales, Jim Hodgesand Deborah Roberts(American); Mamma Andersson(Swedish); Leilah Babirye(Ugandan), Yinka Shonibare CBE RA(British-Nigerian), Denzil Forrester(British-Grenadian), Jonathan Baldock, Sarah Ball, Holly Hendry and David Shrigley(British); J effrey Gibson(Choctaw-Cherokee); Juan Araujo(Venezuelan); Tonico Lemos Auadand Luiz Zerbini(Brazilian).Monkey lamps have a strong theatrical impact in which art, design and the world of nature blend together creating magical products. Dada, invented by the generation massacred by the first world war, rejects art itself and replaces it with brutal, sick humour. Part of the joy of doing it is the therapeutic thing: I guess I’m quite an anxious person at different times. Taking Lewis Carroll's perspective of Wonderland, Shrigley enlarges objects and imbues them with curious proportions. This illustrated catalogue was published in celebration of the gallery's 25th anniversary in conjunction with the group exhibition '25 Years' at Stephen Friedman Gallery, London (25 September – 7 November 2020).

As a Brighton resident, it was an honour to be the Guest Director of Brighton Festival in 2018 and to see how much joy it gave to people. All those who make a donation to the campaign can choose an exclusive reward inspired by the project. He started his career in urban Glasgow and later lived in bohemian Brighton, but feels happy to have moved far from the madding crowd: “I live in a place where other people go on holiday, so that’s got to make me happy, right? By helping to support this campaign it gives us all a glimmer of hope that we will be able to enjoy live art events again in the city. State of the Arts' is a group exhibition at Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn which presents works that blur the boundaries of traditionally distinct artistic media.

Inside the gallery, three robo-dogs — designed by Boston Dynamics for industrial applications such as data collection, and subsequently trialled, controversially, in law enforcement — will take up residence in a purpose-built art studio, where they will paint every day for the duration of the Triennial. Shrigley grew up in Leicestershire, where his dad was an electrical engineer and his mum a computer programmer. David Shrigley's 2023 calendar is packed with his unique dry humour and 12 colourful images to get you through the year.
