About this deal

On the other hand, its QLED system promises richer colours than regular filter-based LCD TVs, and its VA LCD panel should give better contrast than the IPS alternative. What all this translates to is one of the strangest out-of-the-box picture performances I’ve seen – even if most of the initial foibles can be circumvented with a bit of judicious tweaking. TCL has brought its largest-ever Mini LED TV to market in 2023. Its Mini LED flagship, the C845 series, is now available in a whopping 98in as well as 55in, 65in, 75in and 85in, and delivers the brightest, most consistent picture TCL has produced to date according to the manufacturer. We were also asked to pair the remote control with the TV – again odd, given we’d already been using the remote just fine. There are a couple of other seemingly untweakable areas where the 65C845K cedes some picture ground to the TV world’s most high-end Mini LED stars. First, the set’s tone mapping processing sometimes leaves some of the brightest white or colour areas looking so bleached of subtle shading and saturations that they no longer look like natural parts of the picture.

There is also a ‘TCL Channel’ with a dedicated button on the remote, leading through to 80+ live channels and quite the collection of on-demand content, a lot of B-level stuff but some goodies too, partly by including Plex inside the TCL content. The TCL C845 supports every version of HDR – HDR10, HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma), HDR10+, and Dolby Vision, which means you’ll never have to compromise, and the dynamic metadata in HDR10+ and Dolby Vision allows the TV to produce some genuinely impressive tone mapping. The TCL C641K is designed to be wall-mountable, providing flexibility in placement and saving space in your living room. The television is compatible with VESA-standard wall mounts, allowing for easy installation on a wall. The VESA mount ensures a secure and stable attachment, keeping the TV in place. Wall mounting the TCL C641K not only adds a sleek and minimalist look to your room but also allows for better positioning and optimal viewing angles, enhancing your overall viewing experience. Calibration The heavy colour saturation can cause pictures to look a touch noisy across some presets too, so I’d recommend you leave the TV’s noise reduction active (though only on its Low setting) even for 4K sources. Despite this causing a slightly soft look in some picture areas.

AI-CLARITY

The video upscaling and processing are also impressive, with the C845 upscaling lower resolution content with skill and precision to match its 4K panel, while the processing helps to minimise any unwanted artefacts in heavily compressed streaming material or low-quality digital TV channels.

TCL's claims actually turn out to be conservative, though, as we measured more than 2,300 nits on a white HDR window covering 10 per cent of the screen. That's more - way more - than you get from LCD TVs costing thousands more, and way more than we've seen from any OLED TV. Even the new Micro Lens Array models, like the LG G3. The TCL ships in the Standard picture mode, which delivers a very inaccurate picture when compared to the industry standards. There’s a significant excess of blue energy in the greyscale, a gamma with a large dip in the middle, and over-saturated colours that result in average DeltaEs (errors) of 14 for the greyscale and 12 for the colours. The speakers are able to handle the volume comfortably enough to retain plenty of clean, well placed details, too, as well as pretty much always retaining enough headroom to keep expanding to accommodate swelling action scenes. Perhaps as a result of TCL’s efforts to keep the clouding so faint and vague, though, it can sometimes spread further away from the edges of a particularly bright object than we might have anticipated from a TV that has 576 dimming zones at its disposal. Having said that, the resulting sometimes slightly misty-looking pictures are far less likely to distract you than smaller but brighter and more defined areas of blooming would. The TCL C641K QLED television offers voice control functionality, allowing you to interact with the TV using voice commands. This feature enhances the convenience and ease of use, as you can speak your desired commands instead of navigating through menus manually. You can speak to the television whether you want to change the channel, adjust the volume, or launch a specific app. Voice control makes it effortless to control the TV, especially when your hands are occupied or you need to be in close proximity to the remote control. Input PortsThe C81 QLED’s bright approach also helps it retain plenty of shadow detail for the most part (with SDR as well as HDR images), except in instances that the clouding is severe enough to obscure a few things.
