About this deal

Kids will love this, and answers that age old question of why dogs stiff each others bottoms when they meet. Reminds me very much of a poem that my Grandfather used to recite to me. This marvellously mad book was recommended to me by my manager, after she read that a rugby team had taken it on tour with them because of its hilarity - they were right to!

It all began at the Dog’s Summer Ball, a highbrow affair with bow ties and tails…but bottoms, yes those little o-rings were hung up at the door! The day has arrived for the Dogs’ Summer Ball. It’s so high class that each dog must remove their bottom before they are allowed inside the hall. But in the middle of all the frivolity something unexpected happens and the dogs have to make a hasty exit… with or without the correct bottom. Quite early on, I could see what the customer found uncomfortable to see, (I too raised an eyebrow and went "eeww" when I realised what the little pink rings were. At first I thought they were cloakroom number tags or something!) I thought the bottoms would be a little bit more than that... but I suppose, if they were more, like their tail and legs etc. then the ending wouldn't have fit would it? This lively rhyming tale is reportedly taken from an older folk story. The clever visual layout and amusing artwork from award winning illustrator Mei Matsuoka will bring smiles to children, dog lovers and art appreciators alike. The day has arrived for the Dogs' Summer Ball. It's so high class that each dog must remove their bottom before they are allowed inside the hall. But in the middle of all the frivolity something unexpected happens and the dogs have to make a hasty exit...with or without the correct bottom! About This Edition ISBN:

Peter Bently lives in Totnes in South Devon with his wife Lucy and their two children, Theo and Tara. He wrote stories as a child and has always been fond of rhyming (including writing his brother's best man speech all in verse). Then disaster strikes! A fire breaks out and all the dogs flee the building. In their haste they all grab the first bottom they can reach in the cloakroom but unfortunately, they each take the wrong one. Now, whenever they meet each other in the street they sniff each other to try to find their own bottom again. Once the bottoms are hung, much merriment ensues. A huge feast featuring old sheep bones to chew, a cabaret, a Labrador telling rude jokes about cats, a dance and then… disaster! A great fire caused by too much frivolity. All the dogs escape, but there’s a catch – they can only grab any old bottom from the hooks in the hall. And ever since the, when a pair of dogs meet. In the park or the playground, the woods or the street, each dog gives the other dog’s bottom a sniff, to see if it has the particular whiff of the bottom they lost on the night of the ball

Inspired by living close to the sea, Peter’s first book for Macmillan was the terrifically toothy The Shark in the Dark. Staying with the watery theme, Peter Bently has employed his trademark humour and mastery of rhyme once again to the fun-filled Cats Ahoy! Basically the plot explains why dog's sniff each other's bottoms. I won't say more than that, but it is hilarious. The fact that some parents might find it crude and disturbing adds to the experience! I had to read this library book as there was a complaint from a customer :S Not a great first impression for a children's book I must say! This hilarious rhyming story follows Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy, as he sets off for a walk in town Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing -Dogs arrive for their Summer Ball and hang up their bottoms in neat rows in the cloakroom. They eat and drink and enjoy some doggy entertainment. Everyone is having a good time. We will create an immersive show for families in grand halls. Join in with the events of the night and enjoy all the magic and mayhem. There may be points which are immersive or just straightforward end-on storytelling. All this needs to be explored. And most importantly – how will we portray THE DOGS? Maybe there are real dogs in it? Maybe there’s a show where audiences can bring their dogs! The story begins at a doggy ball- where the dogs are asked to hang their bottoms up before they sit for dinner- naturally the kiddies in my class were amused by the notion of bums hanging on hooks! Halfway through the story there is an unfortunate incident and a great fire- the dogs make a dash for it- but all end up grabbing the wrong bottom! Hence why they dogs now sniff each other- to see if they can find their bottom from that very night! Mei is the daughter of a Japanese father and British mother. Born in Tokyo and moving to England at 11, she studied illustration and animation at Kingston University, London. She is an author and illustrator of picture books, mainly aimed at pre-school age children. Her stories explore serious/educational subjects, but vary in tone from comical to thought-provoking and often manifest a world embodying animals or non-human characters. Written in rhyming verse with the most engaging illustrations this very funny picture storybook is sure to raise a giggle every time it is read! There they are fed a grand feast, entertained by doggie musicians, magicians and canine comedians with sly jokes about cats. All is going swimmingly well until the dancing commences.Lccn 2010537204 Ocr tesseract 5.2.0-1-gc42a Ocr_detected_lang en Ocr_detected_lang_conf 1.0000 Ocr_detected_script Latin Ocr_detected_script_conf 0.7927 Ocr_module_version 0.0.18 Ocr_parameters -l eng Old_pallet IA-NS-2000721 Openlibrary_edition
