About this deal

La Prairie is a Swiss cosmetics company first associated with the famed Clinique La Prairie, which was founded in 1931. The Clinique was a pioneer in the treatment and revitalization of skin. The line of cosmetics and skin care products originally associated with the clinic were spun off in 1982, and have been part of the Beiersdorf family of companies since 1991. It seems Midnight Rain is a floral/fruity, but it's not really like any floral fruity I know. THAT'S the real appeal, I think. The guava/vanilla orchid combination is not readily found together in any other fragrance. To the scent. This is patchouli done to perfection. You can definitely smell it in there but it smells GOOD. I'm not a patchouli fan in general, but in this I not only tolerate, I love it. It mixes so well with the vanilla orchid and guava. I can definitely also smell the plum blossom and pomegranate. This is kind of sweet but not overly so, cause the patchouli grounds everything, but this is not a dirty patchouli. MR is a deep scent but still kinda fresh at the same time, if that is possible. I would wear this either day or night, spring, summer, fall and winter. You could say that it has a little bit of a tropical vibe to it, because of the guava, but it still smells classy. I find that it's hard to write a review of the fragrances I really like. Midnight Rain is one of them. Scent very rich, greatly rounded, I get mostly combination of fruity notes and flowers with patchouli as undernote wich makes it more stable.

FINALLY ! i got today my miniature of Silver Rain (5 Euro for 2ml !!!) and this was a very good deal for it, usualy it's more expensive though. downwards the base you can feel the mossy patchouli and deep woody oud slightly fading in the sweet cream of flowers and fruits, perfect rounded with vanilla-tonkabean and the most creamy sandalwood-musk ever!Midnight Rain is such a rich and pleasant scent to my nose. I can absolutely understand why it's a bit polarizing, though. The interaction between tropical fruits and patchouli/musk comes across as either cacophonous or transcendent depending on one's palate and skin chemistry. I was very skeptical when I blind bought my slightly used bottle for a ridiculously low price, and I couldn't be happier! I remembered it more beautiful, or maybe my nose has changed. It is no doubt a rich scent that reminds of rain, warm soil and something sweet coming through. However I received a decant and it reminded me of some sweet Axe deodorant that became so popular in the early 00s, I guess the deo could have been influenced by perfume launches like Midnight Rain. So I am partly sad that a memory has been ruined (or only turned?) and at the same time relieved to have one discontinued item less on the want shelf. Absolutely useless trying this scent on the fly, from the cap, etc., that’s how I passed by silver and colored bottles for years (the SA said they all smell the same). Even wearing Silver rain for an hour made no big sense for me at first: light feminine vanilla with a non-fluffy/ non-yummy facet, there seemed nothing really remarkable about it except its longevity maybe.

As it dries down, it becomes even warmer and also wonderfully creamy. The patchouli is joined by plummy blossoms, a very feminine and soft musk and the cashmere wood, a note I never gave much thought to, but it really does wonders here. And when it gets down to that musky cashmere wood baby softness, I'm in a bliss into the next day. Oh, it's lovely.

Here is what people have to say about Silver Rain

Vetiver is the 11th fragrance note in La Prairie Life Threads Silver. Chrysopogon zizanioides, commonly known as vetiver and khus, is a perennial bunchgrass of the family Poaceae. Our Fragrances can smell Very Similar to your favourite desired ones. However, they are never Identical, as the ingredients used in making our perfumes are totally Vegan. So, perfumes that contain animal notes such as Civet, Ambergris, Musk, Honey, Milk and Castoreum will never smell identical but somehow very similar as we recreate these notes using Vegetable derived elements.

The Silver Rain collection includes numerous limited editions of this perfume: Silver Rain Shimmer Mist (2006), Silver Rain Brilliance, Silver Rain Cachette What is it about this expression, "Angel clone", that I do not understand? I know what ANGEL is. I believe that I understand the meaning of the word 'clone'. Why is every other sweet floriental in The Holey[sic] Book dismissed derisively as an "Angel clone"? Oh well. Vetiver is the 13th fragrance note in La Prairie Life Threads Platinum. Chrysopogon zizanioides, commonly known as vetiver and khus, is a perennial bunchgrass of the family Poaceae. Absolutely beautiful fruity floral. The apple comes through on a beautiful blend of woods, mosses, sugar and more. On me this smells clean and fresh - I love wearing this in summer. It's sparkly and refreshing and the bottle is gorgeous - has a great "feel". This fragrance is sure to please a very wide range of fragrance lovers. It's perfectly balanced and well blended.I'm not very familiar of guava note in perfumes, but upon spraying, La Prairie Silver Rain strongly reminds me of a drink with guava flavour that I had tried before. It's a pungent, intense fruity smell mixed with a heavy dose of sugar. I'm fully aware that guava is a note listed in La Prairie Midnight Rain, but the sample I got was an offical one for Silver Rain. Unless it got mixed up by La Prairie themselves, I guess that's it then. :) The first fragrance from the top-of-the-line Swiss cosmetics brand, La Prairie. Silver Rain creators were inspired by the phenomenon that takes place in spring in the mountains of the Alps. Rain is transformed into ice crystals of breathtaking beauty. In the spring ,these crystal melt and fall from the height of 1000 feet. This is called “ silver rain”. This fragrance includes rare ingredients from all over the world. Top notes include spicy green apple, citrusy-floral accord of Verbena Blossom from the South of France, dewy red fruits, anise oil from Thailand and bergamot from Calabria. At its heart, Moroccan red rose petals meet Chinese star magnolia, tropical Agarwood and night-blooming Indian jasmine, leaving a trail of warm red sandalwood, creamy Tonka bean from Venezuela, heliotrope, vanilla from Madagascar and mix of different musks. The perfume was created by Claude Dir in 2004.

I'm starting to believe that I'm a bit of a fan of guava in perfume. Every guava dominant fragrance I've tried has been a success. In Midnight Rain, this is no different. In this composition it lends a sweet, tropical and smooth aroma. What I love most about Midnight Rain is that these fruit notes are not overly sweet nor too juicy. They work perfectly alongside the floral heart and earthy drydown.Vetiver is most closely related to Sorghum but shares many morphological characteristics with other fragrant grasses, such as lemongrass,...Vetiver smells dry, earthy, woody, leathery and smoky. Think of uncut grass on a warm day and you'll have a rough idea of what vetiver smells like. Vetiver is considered to be a more masculine fragrance, and is used in candles, colognes and other scented products marketed to men. La Prairie Life Threads Platinum Perfumers (Creator) La Prairie MIDNIGHT RAIN, unlike SILVER RAIN, conveys through its name the basic nature of the perfume. There is a darkness, a somewhat purple or dark blue richness, to this composition, which also features amber and therefore evokes in my mind memories of PRADA for her. MIDNIGHT RAIN, however, is lighter on the amber and a lot sweeter than the Prada creation. Still, I find them to be much closer olfactory neighbors than either one of them is to, say, Thierry Mugler ANGEL!
