Hi, newbie here who is relishing the discovery of this forum! I'm not sure I've come to the right place, but you all seem extremely creative and I'm hoping someone can help. The recommended size for an effective plant support is a bar with a minimum of two and a half metres in length and a diameter of 6mm. However the round bars can also be made to any size as the plant grows so that it is not too restricting. Once created, simply place the rod in the ground wrapped around a plant to support its growth. Easy installation: Metal lawn edging is relatively easy to install, especially when using pre-formed sections or strips.My other thought was to use rebar as my base, then attach some heavy gauge wire at the top if I couldn't achieve this effect with one piece. That might have a fun "springy" effect--especially if the tops swayed in the wind. Can you solder onto rebar? Or maybe copper wire would stay in place as long as I twisted it far enough down the rebar "stem"? Then add the 3/8-in. rebar circles. Position the first circle about 2 ft. up from the bottom of your arch. Any lower and you may be inviting little feet to use the trellis as a makeshift ladder. Use cable ties to temporarily secure the circles in place, with the cut ends against one arch. Later you’ll cover these sharp edges with the wire wrap. Space the remaining circles evenly around the arch. They’ll be about 6 in. apart. The cable ties allow you to easily reposition the circles for the best appearance before you wire them into place. I got a vision for some yard art the other day, and when I get these ideas in my head, I've got to pursue them even though I haven't a clue as to what I'm doing! ;-) I do not like structured 'edging' usually. This particular little fence has won my heart. Please, keep it rust, don't do white. Hey, I went to school to be able say this stuff, grins!! I'd also redo that post and chain to match in rust.
