Left in the glass for a while it opens up further with more sherry sweetness and red wine heaviness coming through. On the nose it had custard, raisins and perfumed wood and to taste it had sweet custard with spicy oak bitterness and a lingering sherried fruitiness. We then moved back to Movember whiskies, picking up the second of this year’s MoM bottlings – Smo’key.

Howcroft Estate Limestone Coast Merlot 2006 (Tesco, Australia): Grabbed from my step-dad’s wine rack due to the word ‘turkey’ being in the ‘goes with’ list on the back, this was a nice light Merlot, full enough to battle with the dark turkey meat as well as not being too strong as to drown out the (admittedly dry) white meat. In the meantime they’ve already been continuing their experimentation and the fourth whisky we tried was very much in that line – The Arran Pomerol Finish.However, something that I’d forgotten was that I’d signed up to do a blending class and tasting with Richard at Milroy’s a week later.
