About this deal

Elvis Costello included Franks Wild Years on his list of essential albums, highlighting "Hang on St. E la mia copia in vinile ormai frusta dall'uso ha sentitamente ringraziato (però il vinile è rimasto nel mio impianto mentre questa copia in cd è finita in camera di mia figlia. It's gonna actually unfold, unravel like - or I'm going to unravel, I don't know which is gonna come first. A Waits album described as individual and singular when compared to nothing but the rest of the oeuvre? Working for Coppola's One From The Heart must have been an excellent opportunity for Waits to witness the dynamics of acting and directing.

Titled for a play of the same name and authored by Waits and his wife, Kathleen Brennan, 'Franks Wild Years' was performed by Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 1986.Rudimentary versions of the songs appeared on a demo cassette labeled: Island, 1985 (as mentioned by Barney Hoskyns in Lowside Of The Road 2009). the actual LP comes with an antistatic cover, which means you'll have less crackle but the lousy pressing makes it not worth it, in particular if you already have the original one, which sounds much better. All the voices in Tom Waits' head come out on this album: the growler (of course), the crooner, the preacher, the screecher, and the Vegas cheese ball. Franks Wild Years is an iteration of the track “Frank’s Wild Years” from Waits’ 1983 album Swordfishtrombones. After Waits' debut in Paradise Alley, he appeared in several other movies: Wolfen (1981), The Stone Boy(1982), One from the Heart (1982), The Outsiders (1983), Rumble Fish (1983), The Cottonclub (1984).

It's a record I remembered as deliberately murky, the ramshackle, coming-at-you-through-a-badly-tuned-radio aesthetic a deliberate decision and a big part of its appeal. Like the guys around here on Houston Street with a little towel on the sidewalk, some books, some silverware, a radio that doesn't work, maybe a Julie London album. Laid aside was the blunderbuss loaded with coffin nails, torn pages of Burroughs, scurvy, hookers’ names and confetti.Various versions of " Way Down in the Hole" were used as the theme music for the HBO series The Wire, including Waits' original version for the second season. A new start for Cecil Parkinson, I wonder, but suggest Pee Wee Marquet, fabled midget emcee from Birdland.
