About this deal

That proved to be the case in our listening sessions, because although the M105’s bass was outstandingly neutral, free of unwanted distortion and stayed very clean even at higher listening levels, the very lowest musical octave was a tad lower in level than you’d hear from, say, a pair of Revel F206s or F208s… or an M106. High frequency response is supported by 1 inch aluminum dome tweeters that were derived from Revel's Performa3 series. Low/Mid range frequency response is supported by 6.5 Aluminum cone woofers featuring low-distortion motor-structures for greater clarity and accuracy with improved sensitivity and output capability.

fs will drop, qts and vas changes also, as I say I’m not saying it’s night and day, but physical parameters do change, it doesn’t take long, (I say 100hrs as a long time, as by that point it’s 100% not going to change until it gets to end of life or something perishes or breaks…) and anything will have happened that will My room is 23x12x8.5'tall and I do louder sessions regularly and again I recommend a subwoofer or two or three. In a typical set-up I'd high pass the 530's between 80-100hrz and the M16 at 70-90. In my set-up I actually high pass the 530's at 125hrz in a situation where that makes sense. High passed like that the 530's can play very loud without any issue and very low distortion as long as you have power as they are very power-hungry.

Specification and Design

The reality is wholly positive though. The M16 impressed out of the box and with some more hours on them, they’ve really only improved. In one very important way, this is immediately identifiable as an American speaker. The M16 is big and confident in the way it approaches everything it plays but this is done in a commendably subtle way. When you listen to something like Biosphere’s Substrata, which is at once large scale and also impressively intimate, oscillating between these two extremes, often very swiftly. The Revel is utterly at home at both ends of the scale. It doesn’t impart scale where it shouldn’t be present and delivers it when it should. The primary purpose of ribbing on any surface is to increase the rigidity of that surface, and that’s exactly what is taking place here, with Revel saying that in this case, the increase in rigidity enables the cone to “achieve ideal, piston-like behaviour, eliminating a major source of resonances that are audible in most loudspeakers.” The crossover is at 2.1 kHz and we see rising distortion prior to that. Seems like the woofer is breaking up before its shift is over.

The M16 is a true full range 2-way 6.5” bookshelf that features a small footprint and elegant design. It will deliver an impressive combination of wide frequency range, uncompressed dynamic range and low distortion across the entire audible spectrum. some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online) I feel also touching the price range of 1k I know the KEF 3R are the reference and spending 1k on the Revel might be disappointing. I don't know if I have the right approach but I feel like that now. The Concerta2 cabinetisn't quite as sophisticated as those on Revel's pricier Performa3 models, but its design and execution are more advanced than you typically find in this price range. The curved side walls create astiff enclosure that forms a solid foundation for Revel's custom-designed drivers, as well as contributing to the M16's sleek looks.Perhaps even more impressive is the enthusiastic way these standmounters deliver large-scale dynamics. They pound out crescendos with relish, refusing to harden up or compress the music even at high volume levels. I spent many evenings listening to the seductive M16s. I often find that a darkened listening space enhances the realism of venue acoustics and transients. So a speaker with the M16’s qualities is perfect for these occasions. Listening to the Concerta2 M16s is a journey of exploration: the more you listen, the more you discover. I put many hours on this pair, and the rewards are significant over time. That "strange" treble of the 530 that you didn't like is what hooked me, just something magical about if for me. It gave me a taste of that original sin that had me hooked on good audio long ago. I am all for a big dose of accuracy and love measurements but in the end it better still have enough magic left for me to actually love music on it. What we found staggering was the fact that the SA20 is equipped with the very same phono stage as the SA10 but, because of that Class G power stage, LPs through the SA20s sounded so much better to us. The curvedhigh-gloss cabinet is well-braced to give a relatively inert working environment for the drive units.

As we also could put our hands on some other integrateds at the time of this review, we decided to plug the Revel standmounts into them too to see what happened. When approaching your local dealer for a listen it is essential that you discuss a home demo. Take your time; the M16s will grow on you and could prove to be indispensable. I can imagine many people spending years of sonic bliss with these speakers and being ever so grateful that they had the patience to run them in. Find the correct isolation and stands and begin to build a system around them. Some PEQ are vey sharp so they probably better left out in favor of room EQ and the tolerance between the different speakers across the production may render the second EQ useless but I just made it for the fun of it.
