About this deal

While his previous Netflix film was adapted from a script by his late father, Fincher now relies on a French comic book for The Killer. Diehard Fincher fans will also be delighted to know that The Killer marks the second collaboration between the crime genre auteur and his Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Before the movie drops on Netflix on November 10, it’s worth knowing a thing or two about its gritty source material. The Killer is based on a French Comic from the 90s Conspicuously Public Assassination: The Killer is hired to assassinate a corrupt high-ranking French politician after he becomes a competitor to a Colombian drug kingpin for the same market. The kingpin specifically wants the assassination to be as public as possible to send a clear message, so the Killer opts to blow up his car along with his armed escorts. Archived from the original on November 2, 2023 . Retrieved October 30, 2023. Final Thoughts (Part One):What a ride! There are a few twists and turns but The Killerdoes not rely on them. The story is driven by the actions of the unnamed protagonist. The reader is constantly let in to the assassin’s world through his thoughts and deeds. Jacamon’s art is fantastic with the coloring being a real stand out. The Killertakes place around the world and each location has a different look and feel. A true work of art visually and story wise. Fleming, Michael (November 1, 2007). "Paramount, Fincher catch Killer". Variety. Archived from the original on February 15, 2023 . It may prove to be Fincher’s first self-help film."

Development on the graphic novel adaptation began in 2007 at Paramount Pictures and Plan B Entertainment, with Fincher signed on as director and Alessandro Camon as screenwriter. In 2021, Fincher later moved the project over to Netflix with Andrew Kevin Walker replacing Camon as writer. As a ruthless hitman who is exceptionally good at his cold-blooded profession, the titular anti-hero travels across the world. But as the crimes of his past take a toll on his mental state, he starts losing grip of his own reality. Imagine a character-driven existential narrative from a novella by Franz Kafka or Albert Camus and add some stylish, hyperviolent neo-noir colour palettes to the mix. Voila! You get Matz’s The Killer.

Make It Look Like an Accident: The Professional Killer protagonist often makes his assassinations look like either accidents or suicides to dissuade any further investigation that might ultimately lead to his capture. Averted by "El Padrino", the killer's later Colombian employer. He's fine with parting ways peacefully once the killer's debt is settled, although he later manages to convince him to come work for them again.Heavily inspired by Cold War-era paranoia and espionage fiction like Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels, XIII is similar to The Killer in terms of its morally ambiguous protagonist. The title alludes to a secret agent and assassin with amnesia, who only remembers his numeric codename. Much like the unnamed protagonist of The Killer, Agent 13 has a traumatic past to carry on his shoulders. As we mentioned above, time will tell if The Killer is going to play at all in movie theaters, but at the very least movie fans are going to be able to watch it on Netflix.

It's unfortunate then that XIII’s film adaptation is a low-budget feature by Uwe Boll that was critically panned, like most of his other video game adaptations. Marvel Preview: Captain America #1

Matz has written a story that's a little more shallow than I would have liked, in that it relies too heavily on self-concious narration that's neither as clever nor weighty as the book seems to think it is. The New York Times was less positive, with Manohla Dargis unmoved by character and plot but nonetheless impressed by the talents of Fincher and Fassbender. "The character is boring and so is this movie, but like the supremely skilled Fincher, who can't help but make images that hold your gaze even as your mind wanders, Fassbender does keep you watching."
