I understand that this is a new translation, but only having read the novels in French many years ago I have no comparison point. Then he drove us to his lovely château in the village of Échandens, where I met his wife. Later he began to coach me in Maigret's idiosyncrasies." [4] Recurring characters in the series include Maigret's wife Louise (usually referred to simply as Madame Maigret) [7] and in particular "The Faithful Four", a group consisting of his four loyal police colleagues (Sgt./Inspector Lucas, Janvier, Lapointe, and Torrence [7]).
