About this deal

You might have already read Erikson’s “ Surrounded by Idiots”, maybe as part of this book club, or following your DISC personality profiling consultation with me. This time around we are looking at Erikson’s latest book, “ Surrounded by Psychopaths: Or, How to Stop Being Exploited by Others*”. Based around the clinical term of Psychopath, which current research believes about 1% of the population are classified as this specifically looks at how this type of personality can behave within our personal or professional lives and the impact that can have. Loosely based on the work on the DISC system, it refers to four personality types, labelled as Red, Yellow, Green and Blue and how a psychopath can use your fears and motivations to manipulate you. Understanding your motivations and fears is not just useful for your own self-awareness, it can help you manage your boundaries and see the early warning/red flags for those who may try to manipulate us. Everyone has fears, created from a combination of personality type and life experience. One way of uncovering what you may not want to admit, it through a DISC profile. Another is to ask yourself “what am I most scared of”, and keep digging. It may be rejection, failure, being ignored or control. Knowing this about yourself means you can notice others using it against you. The title Surrounded by Psychopaths was chosen with care, since there are far more psychopaths than I think most people are aware of. I want to show you how to recognize a master manipulator and to protect yourself, should you come across one. When these are added up, the common population scores under 15 points, 15-20 shows concerning tendencies, 20-30 is likely a psychopath, and 35-40 is a definite. Try scoring yourself and colleagues.

Positiivinen vahvistaminen eri muodoissaan otetaan aika usein esille. The question is this: If a person doesn’t have a personality of their own, but simply mirrors whomever is in front of them, who is that person? They are not Red or Yellow, and definitely not Green or Blue. Are they all the colors? A fifth color? The answer is none of these. They are something much worse, something that cannot be categorized in the way we categorize normal people. They are people who don’t have a personality of their own; instead, they mimic whatever they see for their own gain. They are a type of chameleon with a hidden agenda that only they know of. And we can be certain that this agenda only ever benefits them. Mainly the fact that he could classified them so easily into the different colours of psychopathic traits ironically contradict his earlier statement inferring that the classifying psychopath is impossible. In addition, the way he attempted to differentiate psychopath with normal people is just that they are not remorse with their doing, however psychopathic traits tend to be measure in degree rather than a clear binary distinction between psychopath and people who are normal. It then goes on to suggest how a psychopath manipulate the different colours, which is strange because the earlier part of the book the author was very concerned about the psychopath who wanted to take advantage of the personalities traits of the different colour but now wrote a manual on how to do it. Although I suspect that some may argue that the knowledge provided by the author serve as a means to know how to prevent being manipulated, but It is one thing to learn to defend and another to learn to offend. I don't need to teach someone how to shoot a gun to prepare them to protect from gun violence. When the department head had finished his story, tears were running down his cheeks. It was terrible to see.

It's definitely a straightforward book about Psychopaths. Although it seems like it's very rare that we run into them, according to the book it's more common than we think. The color-based DISC language that William Moulton Marston laid the foundations for explains quite a lot about how people function. But, as I mentioned earlier, it does not explain everything. the examples given, which are often if not all are unable to verify its authenticity and tend to claim as real life examples. This gives reader an impression that psychopath are really everywhere and real, which is not necessarily true.

A guidebook for deflecting psychological manipulators. … Bluntly cautionary and applicable advice on the importance of vigilance." — Kirkus First U.S. edition. New York, St. Martin's Essentials. Chicago / Turabian - Author Date Citation (style guide) Suurin ongelma on, että aikoinaan Jungin kehittelemä jako introverttiin, ekstroverttiin ja persoonallisuustyyppien yhdistelmiin ajattelu, tunteminen, aistiminen ja havainnointi on aika kyseenalainen ja ongelmallinen, ja niistä on johdettu jos jonkinmoista mallia luokitella ihmisten käyttäytymistä ja määritellä persoonallisuustyyppejä. Gets and annoys me every single time. If you are asking there are several sources that don't agree with this and I think they have a better idea of what they are talking about then this author. But I am getting off topic here. The most frightening thing is that he is still out there. And if you bump into him or someone like him, it’s critical that you know how to react. Because if he can sniff out your weaknesses, he will press all the buttons he can to destroy you. Not because he hates you or because he has some personal motivation. But because that is what psychopaths do. They take what they want from you. Using any means whatsoever. The consequences don’t matter. This book provides a helpful mental model to understand your own behavior better and how others might use your weak spots to manipulate you. i13325222x |b1130003901752 |dpc |g- |m |h2 |x0 |t2 |i1 |j2 |k201107 |n09-14-2023 15:15 |o- |a158.2 |rE68 i133185837 |b1060007216947 |deva |g- |m |h1 |x0 |t0 |i1 |j70 |k201106 |n01-22-2021 00:31 |o- |a158.2 |rERI Psychopaths are living in society just like the rest of us. They infiltrate companies and organizations, where they get comparatively little work done and only in exceptional cases do they make any positive contributions. They rarely offer to get the bill at the restaurant, and they never have any money when household expenses have to be paid. They are often unfaithful, manipulative, and duplicitous. They are notorious liars; most of them lie when there isn’t even any reason to do so. They can fool anyone into believing them, and they turn everything you say against you. But they are often extremely popular. A lot of people like them, place them on a pedestal, and even respect them.
