About this deal

In short, I was pleasantly happy by both the Boss WL-60 and Sennheiser XSW-D Pedalboards performance. They are excellent choices for entry-mid level wireless guitar systems. However, both have their advantages and disadvantages as one may be a better choice for you than the other. It highly depends on what type of wireless guitar system you’re looking for and your situation. It can be powered via 9V adaptor or 2 AA batteries for up to 10 hours. If you’re using an adaptor, the WL-50 can be used as a power distribution hub to power other pedals via daisy chain. Overall though, for the price and the sound quality, it’s a real good deal for players who want a reasonably priced, easy-to-use and great sounding wireless solution that is simple into put into any pedal board, for most small to medium size stages. PROS: WL-20 also features built-in cable tone emulation, which reproduces the tone of using a 10 foot guitar cable. A wireless system must be able to capture the full and accurate tone of your instrument compared to using a quality cable.

With cable tone in the OFF position, the WL-50 is suitable for use low impedance sources such as guitars with active preamps. This is the same as the WL-20L. For the Boss WL-60, The battery case on the transmitter is highly susceptible to damage. I highly recommend getting a Neotech wireless pouch to protect your transmitter. Unfortunately, the transmitter is made of plastic making it more vulnerable to damage than metal transmitters. Although the wireless “technically” covers 100 ft hypothetically, it may not have the strongest signal or increased latency at 80 ft. If your the musician that dances across the entire big stage or takes the solo into the crowd, then range becomes an essential factor. A huge benefit to using this system is the additional tuner which is integrated into the pedal receiver. This practical innovation means that you don’t have to worry about taking up any precious extra pedalboard space with the receiver as it is designed to take the place of a tuner pedal at the start of your pedalboard line-up.The large visual display and direct-access buttons allow for easy switching between channels and settings, whilst BOSS automatic scanning ensures that the best connection is always dialled-in and presented on the screen for you to see under stage lights. You can also keep an eye on the battery life and channel status here, with the transmitter capable of 25 hours of continuous use with 2xAA batteries. Specifications (RECEIVER) Wireless Format BOSS proprietary digital audio format Wireless carrier frequency 2.4 GHz Compatible Channels 14 (May vary due to local conditions) Transmission Range 65 feet line-of-sight (May vary due to local conditions) Latency 2.3 ms Dynamic Range 110 dB or greater Frequency Response 20 Hz--20 kHz Nominal Input Level -10 dBu Input Impedance 1 M ohm Nominal Output Level -10 dBu Output Impedance 1 k ohm Recommended Load Impedance 10 k ohms or greater Controls CH button Overall, both wireless systems are relatively convenient. They both automatically link together without any extra buttons to push after being powered on. They both attach directly to your pedalboard, which decreases an entire setup step before use. However, the Boss WL-60’s advantage is its more extended battery life of 10 hours. The Sennheiser XSW-D’s strength is its integrated tuner and rechargeable by a USB lithium-ion battery. Range When the WL-60 receiver is powered via a BOSS PSA-S adaptor, it becomes a power distribution center for other stomps on your board. By using an optional PCS-20A daisy-chain cable, you’re able to power a number of BOSS compact pedals at the same time. Battery-Powered Operation for Mobile Gigging

It's easy to fit the WL-60 into your live setup. There are no clunky boxes. No huge receiver units. The WL-60 receiver is small enough to fit on your pedalboard. You can easily add it alongside your pedal collection, and keep control over your sound at your feet. Stunning sound qualityThe WL-50 is designed for players who want to integrate their wireless system into their pedalboard. You may have noticed that the receiver shares a similar size and form factor with the iconic BOSS compact pedal! Overall, both wireless guitar systems produced roughly equal tone compared to a quality cable. If I had to say which of the two produced better sound quality, I would go with the Sennheiser XSW-D by about 0.005%. However, they are both great choices in terms of sound quality. VIrtajako pedaaleille The range is about 65 feet, so for small to medium sized stages it’s perfect. Like all wireless units, line of sight is a big factor in maintaining a strong connection, but we had no issues going around to another room, and still getting a healthy signal. BOSS has also added in a “CABLE” mode, with an emulation of a short cable, like a 10 footer, for example. There’s also a long version as well, which has the feel of a 20 foot cable. Cable length does make a difference in tone, as longer cables can take a bit of high end out of the signal. That’s not a bad thing, with single coils that can make all the difference, producing a slightly sweeter tone. The player can also bypass these variations as well, in the off setting. Sound wise, it’s great with no added hiss or noise; players can easily find room on their boards for one of these.
