About this deal

Shotguns are the most useful weapons up close, and there are three varieties: the pump shotgun, the tactical shotgun, and the heavy shotgun. Weaponry is not a strictly defined category in Battle Royale, but it can be inferred from different categories of items in the game. As a general rule, a weapon must: Bullets can be hitscan (which is an instant connection) or a projectile, which moves at a set speed with a physical object in the world. The unofficial mascot of Fortnite has been having a tough time of it of late. As well as being constantly nerfed with the controversial double pump strat being taken out of the game seemingly for good, it’s also had some competition from other weapons to almost replace it, to make it not the only viable weapon for close-quarters. Despite all that, the Pump is still going strong. Coming across as a good middle-ground between the Pump and Tactical in terms of rate of fire, the Heavy can do decent damage from mid-range, making it ideal if an opponent is trying to run away or are a couple of floors beneath you in your structure. Its high amount of pellets means it’s susceptible to the RNG gods, but you have to be trying really hard to not hit someone with the thing.

As the name suggests, burst assault rifles fire in three round bursts, while a basic assault rifle is full auto. The burst has some accuracy pros as a result over distance, but the class does have a lower damage and firing rate overall. Seeing as you can recreate the effects of a burst rifle with an assault just by tapping the trigger, it's worth swapping out for an assault rifle if you get a chance. Rarer Fortnite guns are always best, but DPS beats damage if you’re a poor shot Heavy Bullets: Used for weapons which deal a high amount of damage per shot, like most Sniper Rifles and some Pistols. A specific noise is played when a critical hit is landed, and the damage number is larger (and yellow if the opponent has no shield left). Weapon spread is decreased when crouching or aiming down sights, and increased when moving or jumping. Scopes have no weapon spread, Most weapons do not have a different Structure Damage, though Explosives typically deal increased Structure Damage.Although many shotguns do not need to be fully reloaded to fire, they still have their Reload Time listed as a full reload from an empty magazine. Damage is not the same as Structure Damage, which can be different to the damage weapons deal to opponents. Perhaps controversially the only sniper rifle to make the list for the best Fortnite weapons, the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle has been around for the longest time as it’s a dependable and rewarding gun to use. It takes a little bit more skill than most weapons and can create some boring situations in the final circle, but that’s just because everyone knows that one shot to the head with it is a death sentence. Fortnite Battle Royaleis now free-to-play on the PC, Xbox One and PS4, allowing those who don’t own the full Fortnite game to experience its new survival mode for the low price of absolutely nothing. Developed by Epic Games, Fortnite is an online video game with 3 modes: Save the World, Battle Royale and Creative. Join the battlefield with up to 100 players in Fortnite Battle Royale, and fight for your survival in player v player combat. Assemble your squad and join the search for weapons and resources – you’ll need them to be the last players standing.

Those who are just hopping into the game will immediately notice that it’s very similar to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, another Battle Royale game that developers Epic Games drew plenty of inspiration from (even if PUBG developer Bluehole weren’t very happy about them using their ideas). However, one key difference between PUBG and Fortnite Battle Royale is how the latter approaches its weaponry, with its guns not strewn across the floor of empty buildings, but instead represented by floating, colored orbs that indicate their respective power levels. Also: Fortnite Battle Royale vs PUBG: How Similar Are They and Which is Better? You have five inventory slots, and ideally you want to fill them with five of the following six item types, depending on your play style: Damage per second (DPS) ignores reload times. Weapons with 1 shot in their magazine will still have a set DPS which is not actually applicable in game. Ammunition is used to reload many types of weapons. Ammunition can either be internal or external, with external ammunition being the most common. External ammunition is found as Floor Loot and used to reload weapons which use the corresponding ammo type:Vaulted until January 2019's V7.10 Patch Notes, the Dual Pistols leave the standard Pistol in the dust, with a far greater damage able to eviscerate the health and shields of an opponent with only 2-3 landed shots. For all intents and purposes they are a two-shot burst weapon. So take a little extra time to aim, and you'll be well-rewarded, particularly if you land headshots with both shots. Obviously they won't outperform a good shotgun or SMG at close range, but they're a punchy utility weapon and a surprisingly powerful killer in the early game.

In other shooters, you might want to bind certain weapons to any customisable mouse keys you have, and while that’s an option here it’s probably better to use those keys for your building tools. You never know when you’ll need to throw down a wall under fire, but that’s all advice you can read in our collection of Fortnite building tips. With a ridiculous rate of fire, high damage, and a gigantic clip, it’s a monster at any confrontations in mid-close range; the damage drop-off and spray is a bit too much for it to be ideal for long-range encounters. With it having manageable bloom up close and being arguably the most user-friendly gun in the game (just spray and pray), the Compact SMG should find a home in your inventory whenever possible. In Fortnite, the trade-off for high damage is often a slower fire rate. For example, the pump shotgun can crush an enemy with full health and shields in one shot. But if you miss, then you’ll have to wait more than a second to fire again. That might not seem like a long time, but in a close-range battle it’s an age. If you know that your aim isn’t great, then the tactical shotgun might be a better option. In a single shot it will deal less damage, but it churns out more damage per second because of its fast fire rate, and so you’ll likely land more shots. The only real downside to the SCAR is that it’s almost like a strange curse to find it early on. Other players will hunt you down to get their hands on it if they hear you firing, as well as medium bullets not being all that common early on. Still, if you can reach the mid-game with a SCAR in your inventory alongside your hopes and dreams, you’re setting yourself up for glory. Weapon Categories are not strictly defined by the game. However, there are categories which are definitively weapon categories, as the contents of the category, fit established weapon rules. Other categories have items which may be classed as weapons, but also contain some which are ambiguous, or not weapons at all (these will be specified).

The poor old Tactical. Forever the bridesmaid, never the bride. With the v9.00 Patch Notes each variant of the Tac received a decent damage buff, and the removal of the Pump Shotgun meant it might finally see the light of popular play. Alas, the Combat Shotgun is superior in nearly every way, and the Tac is left outranged and (for once) slower than its competition. But it's still a powerful damage-dealer that can easily end a fight up close and personal, so be wary against players with a good Tac Shotgun.
