About this deal

In 1999 the merger of ae remaining estates and distillerys left only Demerara Distillers Ltd and they continue to produce rum today. Rum started to be produced in Demerara County, Guyana, as early as the 1640s after the land was reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean by Dutch engineers.

Demerara Distillers Limited is in a unique position in the world of rum, continuing to operate the original production stills used on three of the great Sugar Estates of the 18th and 19th centuries. The 15-year offers hints of raisins and dark fruit flavors that (I think) indicate a sherry cask somewhere in its history. On the nose this rum has strong flavours such as dark coffee, candied orange, almonds and dark chocolate. It was great, as he’s obviously incredibly knowledgeable and happens to be a very kind person as well. You do wonder why they wouldn’t communicate to the world that the blend has been improved and is less sweet. A delicious blend of Caribbean rum, El Dorado 15 Year Old marries spirits from the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still and the Versailles single wooden pot still.

Which could mean that they haven’t stopped ageing with caramel in the barrel, if that story is true to begin with. This award-winning rum is a blend of select aged rums, each matured for at least 15 years in bourbon oak casks.Only marginally better than the 12 year old version, so I tend to reserve this for special occasions. Viel besser als der alte, gesüßte El Dorado, dessen Aromen vom Zucker regelrecht erschlagen wurden - hier zeigen sie sich in voller Pracht. It takes the sugary blanket away and reveals more layers of flavours that have been developed during 15 years of ageing.

Please always read the labels, warnings, and directions provided with the product before using or consuming a product. By 1780, there were over 300 distilleries producing their own unique rums, each with its own marque identifying its origin. This, however, is certainly my favourite Rum with a bit more of a punch behind it and I suspect this will be a cupboard staple for a number of years for the household. Prior to blending the original batches are distilled using 4 unique stills - the Enmore and Diamond Coffey stills, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still, and the Versailles single wooden pot still. Nowadays, after trying a lot of rums,i tend to the Guatamala-Peru style of rums, but Guyana is El Dorado to me. Crafted by Demerara Distillers in Guyana, this elegant tipple embodies over three centuries of Caribbean rum-making tradition. Those results coupled with the level of sweetness on the palate give a very strong hint that sweeteners are being added in one form or the other.

Its unmistakeable taste is achieved from the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still, which provides an earthy, peat-like finish. Information and statements about products are not intended to be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition. All Eldorado rums are made from molasses obtained from Demerara sugar and the Special Reserve is a blend of rums made in Coofey stills and their wooden pot stills all of which have been aged for at least 15 years. I love single malt whisky and have always had a soft spot for rum, but never really tried many varieties until the last couple of years. He happened to be in Toronto to market a few new El Dorado expressions and I was tipped off by someone at the bar.
