One player, the “Leader”, shuffles their tiles face down, then removes five tiles from play without looking at them. It’s darn pretty to look at, pleasing to play, and won’t leave you hating your opponents by the end of it. Legendary Forests is a game of tile placement in which you will grow lush new planets of trees and flowers. I feel like this ends up contributing to the aftermarket for a lot of game inserts, yes, but I’d rather just have something that will keep my tiles together and not cost more than the game.

The mechanics are simple enough to teach a new player in a matter of minutes, yet it still has enough depth to keep seasoned gamers happy.Naturally, you are creating distinct worlds, so you’d rather make sure that your world is better than your opponents!

I also love the Redbud with its beautiful leaves, the Magnolia with its beautiful flowers and strange fruit, and the Weeping Beech. It adds a nice sense of dread, especially if you’re depending on a specific tile to come up and you’re getting closer and closer to the end. After the last tile has been played, each player totals their points and the player with the highest score wins the game! If you have no half-circles in this area — that is, the area is completely enclosed — then you score 2 points for each cookie in that area. The game ends after everyone has placed their twenty tiles, then players score points based on the areas where they have monuments.

Since all of my tiles are face-down, I’m never totally sure what’s still available in terms of connections or possible spaces to close off completed areas. Example: In this example, the Tree token in the Closed L-shaped Pink Zone scores 8 victory points (4x2), because it has 4 Full- Runes. This fills the bill nicely for those times when you’re playing with the younger set or when you want to be socializing at the same time.

Later in the game, this should change as each player tries to create larger forests for the trees they have chosen, so don’t worry that people are ‘copying’! Points are earned by creating whole runes on the forest floor, each tile has half a rune on each coloured edge and will need to join other tiles matching its colour to create full runes.These monuments are in the same three colors of leaves based on three different tree varieties; pink cherry blossom, red maple, and yellow ginko. Each non-purple edge of a tile has a half-circle on it; when two such edges are placed together, the owner of those tiles has created a “cookie” in that area.
