About this deal

Mistaken Identity: Emma notices that Yu has bandages on his arm in the exact same spots that "Spider-Man" got hurt while rescuing her from carjackers the day before. Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Yu's adventures as Spider-Man demonstrates in spades just how hard it is for a normal person to try being Spider-Man. The Parker Luck is a phrase that has been used a lot, meaning when Spider-Man succeeds at something, it usually doesn’t bode well for Peter’s Civilian life, this scenario is used in our protagonist’s current situation when it comes to meeting a girl he likes. I feel that alot of the potential of this concept, being the hero without having the powers and living up to that Spidey name, was pretty much lost at points and with so much going on there lacked deeper substance. One day however, he finds a well-made Spider-Man outfit thrown into the trash, and decides to take it home with him to mess around with.

While it doesn’t play out like he thought it would, Yu perseveres and sees the silver lining behind it, that he made a new friend and that his life is changing for the better. At first, it’s fun to put on the costume and play hero, but when powerful enemies appear, Yu quickly realizes he’s out of his element. But after donning the real Spider-Man's costume on a whim after mistaking it for discarded cosplay, he soon finds himself in over his head as he's wholly unprepared for what Spidey deals with on a regular basis. Given this was a discontinued series though I’m sure that was an impacting factor on what was allowed to be explored and I’m sure Marvel gave Yusuke Osawa so many caveats when clearing this that there is where it probably suffered. An awkward teenager puts on Spider-Man’s suit, but quickly learns being a hero isn’t all photo ops and social media likes. Spider-Man : Itsuwari no Aka (Also known as Spider-Man : Fake Red), is a Japanese manga created by Yūsuke Ōsawa in collaboration with Marvel Comics.

The premise is that in the marvel universe there is a young man named Yu with self esteem issues who wishes he could be as courageous as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man who protects his city.

Another thing that works for this book is having an author that can balance the superhero genre with fantasy. An awkward teenager puts on Spider-Man’s suit, but quickly learns being a hero isn’t all photo ops and social media likes. Overall this was an enjoyable read, and like the author, I hope it's given a chance to continue as a series. In the opening pages Asian-American teenager Yu - a well-meaning but quiet loner-type who is an average student in New York City - finds a discarded Spider-Man suit (complete with the web-shooters) hidden in an alleyway near his school.

In the comic panel where Spider-Man is swinging off, in the upper right corner there is graffiti of Iron Man's helmet. During the battle with Venom, Yu is able to give his mask to the stunned Venom, reminding him of who he is. This seems to be yet another Spiderman reboot, with another new Spidey diving into the fray while Peter is MIA.

While feeling slightly heartbroken by the news, Yu lends his support to Emma and is satisfied with having her as a best friend. There’s a great story trapped in this good one, so whilst this review may read harsher I’m moreso lamenting lost potential.

The bullies leave and Toby walks out, Yu attempts to apologize to Toby feeling guilty for not attempting to help him. It's interesting enough, I suppose, But I'm not sure if I really loved this as a whole, especially if it's starting a whole new kid's journey into the Spiderverse.
