This was missing from the Netflix series (probably because the idea of a character teetering on the edge of death at all times was deemed too intense for a kid's show) but wow, what an arc! I loved how this was woven into both her friendship with Courtney and her relationship with Badyah. It was so incredibly sweet to see how Badyah supported her and saved her multiple times while Norma grappled with both her ghost problem and her growing feelings. Having been in Norma's situation before where you confess a crush to a friend, only for that friend to reject you because they're straight, I felt every sharp edge and comforting moment of this arc viscerally. I found this to be one of those rare instances where I actually /don't/ ship the characters romantically, mainly because of how well done this is and the truly special friendship these two have. And finding out that the poltergeist storyline was originally NORMA'S storyline instead of Barney's like it was in the show?! UGGGHHHH! I really loved this whole plot thread. Norma, Barney and Courtney search for Pugsley on the fourth plane, where a mysterious ruler sentences them to an eternity in prison.Courtney gets a lot more time this volume as it appears that their past as an angel and their decision to return to the angels will be a major part of Volume 3. I'm interested to see how much they remember and what their role will be in the coming war. Audience: If you read the first one and want to know more, or if you’re watching the Netflix adaptation and want to cross compare. Otherwise, I’m losing interest in the comic series that I wonder if it will still continue? It leaves off on a cliffhanger and the show already is in a pretty different direction than this so, who knows? If it doesn't continue, I won't be upset. White, Abbey (4 July 2022). Opie, David (16 June 2022). "Dead End: Paranormal Park's Hamish Steele on queer animation and *that* musical episode". Digital Spy. Archived from the original on 19 June 2022 . Retrieved 3 July 2022. io9: What lessons do you think you learned from your time creating Dead End that you brought to finishing out the DeadEndia trilogy? Were there any story threads you decided to change based on things the audience had responded to in Dead End?It is possible the Angel, whom of which was teased at the end of " Into the Fire," may be derived from the concept of The Watcher. For as much as I loved Volume 1, I think Volume 2 has taken the top spot in this series so far. The main characters' arcs are self-contained (given where everyone ended up at the end of Volume 1) but they mirror each other nicely and continue the growth of these characters. Seeing Courtney's arc tied so closely to Norma's was great as they've always had an entertaining friendship and this added a whole new layer to it! Badyah's role is expanded into basically main character status and her arc is actually essential to the story (as well as a great arc for her). Logs is a little less of a main character in this version, but his relationship with Barney and the role he plays in Barney's story are sweet and very well portrayed. And the ending! I can't wait for Volume 3 to see how this all plays out! DEAD END: PARANORMAL PARK Trademark Application". Justia. 2021. Archived from the original on 26 October 2021 . Deadendia is a comic about the employees of a theme park, particularly two people who work in a haunted house. It’s sort of Nimona-esque in its brilliant execution, going from laugh out loud funny to honestly heart wrenching from plot point to plot point. Martin, Anne (2 July 2020). " 'DeadEndia' animated series coming to Netflix". UPI. Archived from the original on 2 July 2020 . Retrieved 12 December 2020. The series was received positively. David Opie of Digital Spy argued that the series satiates the "endless need for adorable queer animation" and noting other animated series with queer-inclusive stories. [35] Abbey White of The Hollywood Reporter said the series isn't "typical" for animated series, noted the "racially-, gender- and sexuality-diverse cast" and argued the series smashes genres and is "equal parts comedy, horror and coming of age." [36] Ben Mitchell, the editor-in-chief of Skwigly called the series a "horror comedy...for younger audiences" and praised the well-developed characters and "incredible attention to detail" in production design. [37] Reuben Baron of Paste called the series "groundbreaking" and argued that U.S. senators Roger Marshall, Mike Lee, Mike Braun, Steve Daines, and Kevin Cramer demanded new content warnings because the series centers on a trans protagonist. Baron criticized the series for not capturing the "visual charm" of the DeadEndia comic and saying the series "tones down" some themes from the comic while praising the writing and treatment of autism in the series. [38] In August 2021, Steele noted the importance of trans representation in the series, hoped it took a stance against transphobia in the UK, and noted there are "multiple trans cast and crew". [30] On 23 October 2021, Netflix reserved a trademark with the new name for the series: "Dead End: Paranormal Park". [31]Levitt, Barry (17 June 2022). "Netflix's 'Dead End' Is the Kind of Trans Representation We've Been Waiting For". The Daily Beast. Archived from the original on 3 July 2022 . Retrieved 3 July 2022.
