This material resists corrosion, is unaffected by magnetic fields and demonstrates excellent durability, making MIDO’s stainless steel watches enduring creations that can stand the test of time and weather the elements. Some people even refer to it as a “true” GMT movement, but I think it is unhelpful as it adds a layer of unwarranted snobbery to the argument. For this, you pull the crown to the third position and turn the entire set of hands that are interlocked until the GMT hand is where you want it to be. If you are familiar with the Ocean Star GMT, you will know the standard case size is 44mm, and when we approached this design, we knew we wanted to try something new.

But there was a total dearth of mechanical movements available to mid-level brands with the Traveller’s GMT feature. Although the lume is very bright, it doesn't last through the entire night as do some of my other watches. All of them are gone now, except the Tudor Black Bay GMT, which is itself the reason I sold the others. Marvel at the contrast of the satin-brushed sides of its case with its polished top surface that bestows this timepiece with a sporty masculinity look. Both are quite austere, with simple repeated shapes, and touches of luxury only via the use of colour and applied indices. I fly often - so having a reliable watch with clear markings and dual time zone capability is critical for me. Sometimes you’re on the move for work, waking up jetlagged, a long way from home, and unsure what time it is back at the office.

The Mido user's manual give information about the use, the settings and the maintenance of the different Mido watches. We see it as a nod to the golden age of travel that captures the excitement and romance for your wrist, even for those moments when you’re stuck in line for security, or simply dreaming of that next far-off destination. If you ever catch a glimpse into the heart of this dive watch, you would be amazed at the great amount of details put into the making of this movement, down to its oscillating weight decorated with Geneva stripes and Mido’s logo.

The dial is finished with Super-LumiNova for the hands and markers, and the date display is nicely integrated at three o’clock on the dial. All brand names and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification purposes only. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. It is also true that some of the Seiko watches that have this setting method use the Kinetic family of movements and are very modest, so the snobbery is unjustified. Ceramic is a non-metallic mineral material that undergoes a specific treatment in a high-temperature environment.

If you’re not afraid of color and a little serving of “Pepsi”, the special edition in red and blue with an extra NATO strap in the same colors might be the one for you. Since 2019, Mido has been an official partner of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, an annual competition in diving from a height of 25-28 meters. Full agreement, it is a true eye catcher in blue / black, kind of classic and bold at the same time. The earlier edition of Mido Ocean Star GMT (2020) had a date window with a date disc in tune with the dial’s black colour to minimise the intrusion. Forget the roaming fees, the sim card codes, and the battery concerns – you don’t even need to stop the seconds hand on a proper travel watch.

If only my dad had hung out and drank with cool pilots more instead of going to the movies, I could now be wearing a vintage “Pepsi”. We accept payments made by major debit/credit cards - Visa, Visa Electron, Mastercard, American Express, Solo, JCB. Very nice, I especially like keeping the that they kept the diving bezel and left the GMT on the inside track. Being flat, the crystal does give quite a sterile view of the dial below, there is no distortion you might get from a dome, or edge issues seen with a box crystal.

It suits the austere nature of the design, but perhaps a low dome would have leant a little more class. the omega watch box arrived damaged, and the watch was never sent to an authenticator as advertised. The oceanic tones of its dial are further complemented with a blue ceramic unidirectional rotating bezel which enables the tracking of elapsed time. This dive watch is protected with a flat sapphire crystal which has anti-reflective treatment on both sides that not only offers great legibility under any lighting conditions but also complements the timepiece’s elegant design. In addition to its screw-down case back, the Ocean Star GMT Black is built with a screw-down signed crown which allows for a water resistance of 200m. If you’re a “function over everything” kind of person, then this Mido Ocean Star GMT is hard to dismiss. The stainless steel bracelet is satin finished, with a polished central link, and comes with a folding clasp with diving extension and a quick-release system for quick changes. So, the argument goes, this method is best for tracking a remote office or two as you can switch the 24-hr hand to whatever timezone you like, whenever you like, whilst leaving the local time alone, unhacked. From a technical point of view, it is a less exciting feature, and therefore these types of GMT watches are more accessible.
