About this deal

Most of the story takes place when Isabel and the children sell their London home and move to the old and decrepit Spanish House. A talented violinist Isabel and also widow inherits a dilapidated house named Spanish house at the close knit country village , moving there with her two kids after she’s suffering from the trauma to lose her husband at tragic traffic accident.

I am not responsible for the republishing of the content found on this blog on other Web sites or media without my permission. It was perfect in the way she found solace in her violin, taking to the roof at night to play out all of her emotions.

There were a lot of life skills Isabel was just learning, and I like that the author took the time to show that. Recently widowed Isabel has been left in a difficult financial situation by her deceased husband and can no longer afford to keep the swish London home she now occupies with her two children. She finally makes her mother pull her head from the sand and face facts in that they cannot afford the lifestyle that Isabel has become accustomed to. From the Sunday Times bestselling author of Me Before You and the new 2023 novel Someone Else's Shoes. The main characters are much more of a realistic mixture of traits, and I found Isabel's children particularly likeable.

Unlike a lot of Moyes’ work, it does not have both a contemporary and a historical section but has a multitude of characters to get to grips with and, as always, I found the characterisation to be near perfect.

Run down and sadly lacking in amenities, it is nothing like the finery her and the children have been accustomed too. As Matt attempts to drive Isabel and her family away from The Spanish House things begin to unravel very quickly and soon result in a dangerous obsession.

So, if you're looking for a book settled in English countryside talking about people fighting over an old mansion, you can give this one a shot. Quietly compelling, I enjoyed the array of characters and drama surrounding them and found Moyes' writing as beautiful as ever. A while ago I set myself the challenge to read all of Jojo Moyes back catalogue after reading such gems such as Me Before You and The Girl You Left Behind. However Matt isn't about to let his dream go and soon puts his plan into action, with consequences that change the lives of everyone.

The secondary characters in this book (many of them with occasional points of view,) were wonderful to read.

She had zero common sense, it was remarkable how a woman of her age with two kids could willingly know so little about finances and parenting and the world in general. There was a small town country feel to this story that was so on point with the gossiping and shadiness among the neighbors and what they knew about each other.

Her neighbours, Laura and Matt, do nothing in the slightest to make her feel welcome to the village; on the contrary Matt is out for revenge and Laura is lost in her ever crumbling world. Her teenage daughter Kitty takes on more responsibility than she should, and her young son Thierry has retreated into a world of silence since his father died. This novel follows the lives of the people in the little village where 'The Spanish House' is located.
