In 1984 Puffin published The Further Adventures of Gobbolino and the Little Wooden Horse, a joint sequel to Gobbolino and to Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse (1938). Finally accepting his magic, Gobbolino becomes the pedlar-woman's assistant, but his good heart and unwillingness to cause pain mean he fails at every task he is set.

I heartily recommend this book to parents of children in the appropriate age range, as well as to adults who retain their own childlike sense of adventure and love of animals. The cover may have some limited signs of wear but the pages are clean, intact and the spine remains undamaged.

The story revolves around Gobbolino’s adventures, but Gobbolino is no ordinary cat, he is a witch’s cat! All he wants is to be a kitchen cat, but Gobbolino has many adventures in his journey before he finds the place where he belongs. My daughter (aged 6) got a little upset with the book a few times, as life is repeatedly harsh on Gobbolino, and though the ending was happy, it made her quite angry! A story book I'll share as it think it's a wonderful story to be read aloud on a dark stormy bedtime!There are 20 titles to collect in the series, listed below, all with exciting new covers and fun-filled endnotes. This sets him apart from other witch's cats like his twin sister Sootica, who have pure black fur and green eyes. I prefer to believe that she simply failed to think through the unpleasant implications of Gobblino's contentment at fitting in with a family whose head wanted to destroy him merely for being what he was born to be, through no fault of his own. The illustrations by Paul Howard are soft pencil sketches, giving the tale an old-fashioned quality that suits it very well.Although this book follows the same basic storyline as Williams's previous work, Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse, the tale of Gobbolino is more emotionally involving.
