In present time, Victoria, a college professor, hosts parties for her graduate students at their home, causing Auden to often slip out of the house and drive around at night before heading to Ray's Diner to spend the night time. One of the first times Auden hangs out with the girls from Clementine's in the book, they go to a house party. Her plans include buckling down with her college textbooks so that she has a head start on her coursework in the fall.

She almost immediately she regrets her decision to visit after her carefree summer is taken away from her.

They seem to be one-dimensional on the outside, but eventually they at least have the opportunity not only to surprise Auden the character, but to remind us as readers that people aren’t usually just cut-and-dried what they seem on the surface. Through out the book he shows her alot of things she missed in her high school years, and they share those experiences. The protagonist Auden's journey is poignant and relatable, drawing attention to the dysfunctions and paradoxes of family life without judgement. My favorite part of the movie was Auden’s budding friendship with Maggie (Laura Kariuki), who is even more lively and smart than I imagined.

Auden makes the most of her transitional summer, and I can see how this would be the perfect book for that “in-between” time.Given the disservice those covers do to Sarah Dessen’s books, I was thrilled when, at the beginning of the summer, Sarah and Penguin announced that all of her books would have new paperback covers. Sarah Dessen is the author of six stunning teen novels: Just Listen , The Truth about Forever , Lock and Key , That Summer and What Happened to Goodbye . After the divorce, Auden stayed with her mother and watched her mom’s professorial career reach new heights.
