About this deal

I fully admit that I am biased, as Angron and the World Eaters are my favorite primarch and legion respectively. THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES and the names of the characters, items, events and places therein are trademarks of The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Middle-earth Enterprises under license to New Line Productions, Inc. That’s why I’m reading this book, because in all honesty, Angron: The Red Angel is the sort of book I’d usually shy away from.

While it had its occasional neat imagery, the novel did not go all the way with the violence like it could have.David: Yes, especially Gorgon of Medusa , as that was also more about the Iron Hands around Ferrus Manus than the man himself, and how he affects those he leads. I really wanted to explore the World Eaters from that side, to see what they’re like from his perspective, and ask why someone would want to join them. He has written for Black Library, Marvel, Aconyte Books, Asmodee, Mantic Games, Cubicle 7, Creative Assembly, and Mongoose Publishing.

That became one of my favourite parts – in another world, I could have written a novel about that story alone! I think it’s their valiant and futile attempts to overcome the burning ball of rage that is Angron, are the high points of the novel. However this is a book about different Berzerkers relationship to Angron and the Greyknight who chase him. David: All of the veterans of the Long War have degraded since their time in M31, but you’d be hard-pushed to say any have fallen as far as the World Eaters. You want the inside scoop on a Traitor Legion in the same vein as, say, the Night Lords books, here's your huckleberry. He's just rage made manifest, and the narrative makes it abundantly clear that there is no possible redemption for him. It explores the twisted brotherhood of the World Eaters, it shows how horridly enslaved they are and how desperately they hate Angron - just as much as they're still mad for his attention.

They're Imperial Thousand Sons, but with absolutely zero hubris: they know what they're doing and they haven't got a single speck of doubt about the horrible sins they commit. Now, that may not be a type of character I usually find interesting, but there are interesting things you can do with such characters.David Guymer is a freelance author, PhD in molecular microbiology (which still comes in more handy than you might think), and tabletop warlord based in the Yorkshire East Riding. There are a few nods to Aaron’s The Emperor’s Gift , as some of the events that took place there – and the consequences of Angron’s last banishment – have a big part to play in The Red Angel . Every character within this story (with the exception of one which I will speak of later) has a very interesting arc and I never wanted to skip one character’s progression in favor of another. I do think that it does add to the plot however, for there is not much that can really be done with Angron post-heresy story wise. Parts are easy enough to follow, others made me question whether the intention was to give the reader an impression of how the butchers nails feel.
