About this deal

We'll see how this birth ultimately turns out, but this book has helped me feel more confident in my abilities to give birth and less nervous about the final outcome. Professor Tong carefully and simply breaks down the evidence and facts to provide you with everything you need to know to turn anxiety and trepidation about childbirth into confidence, empowerment, and cherished, life-long memories.

I even used one of their positions to help my baby turn from the time I was sent home from the hospital during labor to the time I delivered. Found it to be thorough but easy to read, with a loving tone that encourages women to be informed about their birth options and be proud of the choices and decisions they make regarding their birthing plans. There are icons, alongside detailed information and evidence, for literally every birth choice, allowing you to form a clear picture of the kind of birth you really want, and easily share it with professionals. Babies are resilient and having a healthy birth is so much more important than having a "Sears" birth. It's a look at connection and attachment and how mothers are creating a loving relationship with their baby. You’ll also learn vital information every pregnant woman needs to know about topics like the vital role of the birth hormone oxytocin, the relationship between your mind and body, and practical tips on everything from feeding in public to packing your birth bag. Her book, "What Mother's Do", is one of the best known books talking about the experience of being a mother and how difficult it is to pinpoint what mother's actually do. Written by an experienced Midwife and hypnotherapist, with lots of real life birth stories, this book will give you and your birth partner the tools and techniques you need to feel confident, calm and even excited for your baby’s arrival.

The authors detail dangerous and ludicrous procedures women were put through once midwives were discredited and women became convinced that male doctors knew the most about birthing babies.

Hypnobirthing certainly doesn't involve being hypnotised; instead, it teaches you how your body works on a muscular and hormonal level when in labour and how you can use various relaxation techniques to ensure you are working with your body (rather than against it), making birth more efficient and comfortable. Some of them talk about other people's experiences of motherhood and birth, some can be useful tools in the recovery from birth trauma, some can help you learn more about your baby and some are just a bit of fun. This book will help them learn about what might happen and why they play such a valuable role merely by being there.

Full of information, realistic and not sentimental, The Happy Birth Book will help you work towards a good birth. Therefore, I have tried to keep this book short; it’s an easy read that can be digested with focused reading in lieu of a few evenings of Netflix.

The author, who doesn’t seem to have any scientific grounding, regurgitates personal experience and choice anecdotes as fact. I tend to agree with the Sears' naturalistic tendencies in general, but I do think the subject of pain medication during labor (and the epidural in particular) are handled in a somewhat biased fashion.
