There are several excellent self-help books for OCD currently available but, as a mental health professional working in this area, I consider this to be one of the best I have come across. I'm about a third the way through a 16-week program and the benefits and rewards are already coming through. g. involving spiritual advisors, symptom monitoring, targeting certain obsessions - but actually the list presents appraisals of obsessions - which is more appropriate, but the heading is misleading), but also poor understanding of Christian religion (a character 'Mark' 'appears repeatedly at pastor's door requesting a confessional' - it would be helpful to not mix a Catholic sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation with a Protestant figure of a pastor.

Some of what's in this book I already knew from my time at CBT but some of it gave me that lightbulb moment of 😮 oooh yeaaaahhh, to explain some of my behaviours. This clever book cuts through the clutter of medical jargon providing an easy to follow approach to overcoming obsessive thoughts and behaviors. Like another listener I am trying to locate the PDFs for this title that are referred to throughout the book. The book has given me a clearer, better and deeper understanding of how OCD works and more importantly how to challenge it. Like all new skills it will involve practice and you will have to repeat tasks until you learn more about your OCD and your worries lessen.This book, written by experts, explains OCD in its many forms in simple terms and the practical steps in how to overcome it. Chapter 7 helps you understand your anxious feelings, as understanding anxiety is an important first step in recovering from your OCD. This self-help book for young people is an invaluable resource for adolescents who have suffered from, or know someone who has suffered from, OCD, their families, teachers, carers, and mental health professionals. This may be the most important for anyone who uses this book to try to lessen their OCD symptoms - please, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT TRY TO THOUGHT BLOCK. He is editor of the scientific journal Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy and a Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
