About this deal

I had never heard of Chantilly, and given that I have inherited two bottles of the stuff, was delighted to find I like it - a lot. Notes: David was my lodger at the time, while Oasis is a chippy that has changed hands several times since. Well, it's an ill wind and all that, because I have since taken custody of two more hauls of perfume - the best had definitely yet to come. and I mean YEARS, back in the 60's I remember being able to get three perfumes in a set that were kind of part of a series-Emerald, L'Origon, and L'Aimont.

so I can't comment on the similarities, but I can say that this is a sweet and powdery floral bomb that made me feel extremely feminine but also rather powerful. I also experienced a strange shock of memory as I realized that my mother had a bottle of this - not only a small oval-shaped bottle (probably from the 60s or so,) but it was part of a three perfume set from Coty that also included Emeraude and L'Origan. This is instead a more fruity floral with a sweet freshness that totally goes with youthful skin and younger fresh faces. On me, Arpege only works in very cold weather, otherwise it is sour, but I believe the Magnet, just like No. I have the sleek, elongated bottle with pink label around its neck (same as the one pictured on this page) and am unaware whether this is different from the other newer versions. Certainly not something for those who dislike powder--but if you enjoy a powdery, ultrafeminine rose scent, you will enjoy this lovely classic fragrance. But they are the flowers most closely associated with vanilla, and so we can detect this interesting botanical vanilla (something like a vanilla that hasn't gone through its entire aging process. Talking of favourite things, our “gal pal” Iscent , mistress of the splendid scented emporium I Scent You A Day is just such an individual.

The Lucien Lelong is on the face of it absolutely not my thing - one of those fierce spicy orientals - the only modern equivalent of which I can think of being EL Spellbound. Its floral heart was tight and seamlessly blended, giving the shape rather than the distinct fragrance of jasmine, ylang ylang, carnations, and other flowers I can’t suss out. There was a hint of peach, and an amalgamation of soft, delicate florals but the only distinct floral note was the rose, to my nose. Not much sillage or lasting power, which allows me to reapply without blasting anyone in the near vicinity.Generally the Coty perfumes, to my nose, really are worth looking out for as vintages because they had a certain something back in the day that's changed considerably since. It has about a half inch of juice left and so I don’t wear it but sometimes uncap it just to see where it is on its journey. He currently divides his time between work in user experience design, painting, and his independent perfume company, January Scent Project. Smelling L'Aimant after all these years (translation from French equals "Magnet") I am brought back to that early bottle that my mother had, although I don't know if I can trust my memory here. The other week I reported about my fragrant 'estate windfall', whereby I was the lucky recipient of a couple of vintage perfumes my friend found while clearing out his parents' house after his father died.
