About this deal

Mrs Allgood (Gillian Raine) was replaced by Wendy Wooley (Elizabeth Estensen - who developed a progressively more elaborate nervous twitch as each episode passed) and poor Mrs Atkins had a complete face change when Carol Macready replaced Lynda Marchal. She's a rebel: we go to places like Eton, have a nanny, even hire a woman like Barbara Woodhouse and they all give up on her.

Other early work included A Choice of Evils ( Play for Today, BBC, 1977) and Two People ( London Weekend Television, 1979), as Emma Moffatt). Marmalade Atkins is the worst behaved girl in the world so the authorities do their best to make her a good little citizen. We will introduce you exclusively to Newpay finance products provided by NewDay Limited under this Introducer Appointed Representative arrangement.Despite the efforts of her parents (John Bird and Lynda La Plante), social worker Mrs Allgood (Gillian Raine) and child psychologist Dr. Davies revels in lampooning the education system - from the yobbish Cringe Hill (a spoof of Grange Hill (BBC, 1978-)) to public schools all too ready to take a bribe from Marmalade's wide-boy father.

I don't remember this but wiki said the first TV appearance was in a one off "Marmalade Atkins in Space" adaption. And there is no indication that she has learned her lesson, or anything for that matter in any lessons, as she seldom attends them. This brash and noisy television comic strip was developed by Andrew Davies from his own book, Marmalade and Rufus.

Quote from: Rizla on January 27, 2022, 04:04:25 PMI have it in the same mindbracket as "Seaview" starring pre-Blue Peter Yvette Fielding, perhaps because she also caused "feelings". In fact, she's so wicked that her parents and social worker decide that the only thing to do with her is to blast her into space. For some reason, our town library in the early 90s had a lot of novelisations of long-gone media properties - the original Grange Hill novels, Gregory's Girl, Lizzie Dripping and Marmalade Atkins.

also included is the pilot episode, Marmalade Atkins in Space, first screened as part of the anthology series Theatre Box in 1981. This was followed by two ten-part series entitled Educating Marmalade in 1982–83, [3] and Danger: Marmalade at Work in 1984, [4] both of which continued to feature Coleman in the lead role. Marmalade first appeared in the book Marmalade and Rufus in 1979, and the character was later brought to television in 1981 in which she was played by the actress Charlotte Coleman. Also featuring John Bird [5] and Lynda Marchal as her parents Mr and Mrs Atkins (the latter replaced by Carol MacReady for the Marmalade at Work series), the programmes were produced by Thames Television for ITV.

This was soon followed by her role as the teenage rebel Marmalade Atkins, firstly in Marmalade Atkins in Space (a one-off drama shown in 1981), and then in two series, Educating Marmalade (1982–83) and Danger: Marmalade at Work (1984). Other institutions mocked included the prison service and the Catholic Church, with the Convent of the Blessed Limit populated by burly male actors playing sadistic baseball bat-wielding nuns (nuns would surreally feature in Davies' later University satire A Very Peculiar Practice (BBC 1986; 88; 92)). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The first series of Educating Marmalade launched on CITV in 1982, and the theme music was provided by Bad Manners. I have it in the same mindbracket as "Seaview" starring pre-Blue Peter Yvette Fielding, perhaps because she also caused "feelings".She embraced the role of Marmalade wholeheartedly, and possibly felt something of an affinity with the character. Airing on the launch night of Channel 4 on 2 November 1982 Brookside changed the face of soap opera in England by tackling realistic and socially challenging storylines. A memorial was held at the Mill Hill Buddhist Centre in north London later that month and attended by family and close friends.
