About this deal

I would highly recommend it for style and ease, but if you want to become a true coffee aficionado, you’re better off looking at one of the manual espresso machines below. The A modo mio jolie takes its own coffee pods, not the traditional Nespresso-style capsules, and there’s a decent range of different blends to choose from.

Do bear in mind that given this machine’s relatively low water capacity of 600ml, you will likely need to refill its tank fairly often, if you’re a big coffee drinker. As part of our design tests, we also look at the capsule bin, if there is one, and the water tank, to consider whether these offer a reasonable capacity compared to the size of the machine. They are also a tad cheaper per capsule than some of the other options on this list, coming in at around 38p per cup.Though more complex to use than most beginner-friendly machines, its quick start guide is accessibly clear and concise, making set-up a breeze, and the instructions are reassuringly thorough. Plus, the choice of pods opens up plenty of relatively eco-friendly pod options for the eco-conscious. The Nespresso Creatista, made in collaboration with Sage, caters to a range of coffee options and cup sizes, with an adjustable steam wand for making frothy cappuccinos and silky lattes. If you need more, you can press the screen for ‘a bit more’ until it decides you have the perfect amount.

If you’re looking to hone your barista skills, but don’t quite want a bean-to-cup affair (they do take up a lot of space, after all) then the Sage bambino is a great bet. L'OR BARISTA coffee pod machines are designed to create high quality espressos with L'OR BARISTA coffee capsules. We were impressed that it caters for even, ahem, particular coffee drinkers as you can tweak the volume and temperature of your coffee and milk. It uses the same compostable EcoCaps as the Idola, delivering great-tasting, quality coffee, and is operated with just a single button. Because each has a bespoke barcode on the underside that the machine scans to know which drink to brew.It isn’t that it doesn’t make a decent coffee, as it definitely does – it just needs a little more time to heat up and produces slightly less consistent results than more expensive espresso machines. The Vertuo Creatista brings together the trademark brushed-steel frame of Sage and the easy to use design of Nespresso. Options to help add a pop of colour to your kitchen include: spicy red, aqua mint, mango yellow and Pacific blue.
