His grief for those he’s lost, and his sort of anticipatory grief for the people he’s yet to lose, is probably more present than he’d like to let on, but he doesn’t let this cast a shadow on the life he and people he loves are leading right now. This is my type of fan service; it adds to the story without turning it into something other than what it previously was.

I liked that it showed us more about Elisabeth and Nathaniel’s relationship since the romance was secondary in the first book, and it was adorable to see them both fall even more in love with each other and try to figure out where to go from there. I hope we do get some sort of companion novels about new characters taking place in this same world someday.Without taking her eyes from the door, Elisabeth reached down, took him by the arm, and lifted him to his feet. I’m sure I speak for many others when I say it’s always fun getting domestic scenes of our favorite duos. Jordan: Aside from the romantic scenes, the exploration of all the secret rooms in Thorn Manor was my favorite aspect. Mysterious hidden rooms are found, a relatives clothing comes to life and assaults them, Silas deals with a new house guest.

but it was so enjoyable to be back in the world of thorn manor and see elisabeth, nathaniel, and silas again.

The manor has its own stubborn and hilarious personality, and it's funny to see it interact with Elisabeth especially. This novella focuses more on the romance between Elisabeth and Nathaniel, and their everyday life at the Thorn manor, now that Ashcroft is no longer a threat. No one can come in or leave the manor, and things only seem to get worse when violent topiaries and deadly winds get thrown into the mix. When not reading or writing she enjoys sketching, gaming, making pudding, and watching more documentaries than is socially acceptable (according to some). i think readers who are nostalgic for all the feelings ‘a sorcery of thorns’ gave and were wanting an extended epilogue will really enjoy this short story!

This story is perfect for anyone who would like to spend more time with Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas, and see what their daily life is like without any life-threatening* plots looming overhead… though Nathaniel would argue that hosting the Midwinter Ball does, indeed, have the potential to be life-threatening, and is certainly a plot against him. In that moment she thought fiercely that she would protrct him from anything; she would battle villains, demons, monsters, to keep him safe. This novella is set a few months after the end of Sorcery of Thorns and we are once again following Elisabeth and Nathaniel as they settle into their new lives with each other. She was having the complicated realization that she still wanted to kiss Nathaniel even while he was wearing an old lady’s hideous dressing gown. But as they delve into the manor's history, new questions arise: is Mercy truly happy working at Thorn Manor?If anything, this story reminded me that I likely enjoyed Sorcery of Thorns more for its characters than anything else in the book.
