About this deal

At the end of the book, there are questions you can answer which encourage you to go back through the book and reread certain sections. This is a WOW book for me because I love geography and it presented the information in an interesting way. One other fun way this book can be used in the classroom is to teach students about travel and geography. How I would use this book: I would definitely do a cultural project on this book because it vastly describes so many different cultures that any person even the teacher or adult could learn something.

Additionally, it instills in children the value of travel and adventure in helping them to extend their perspectives and gain a better understanding of the world. In this story, a boy who’s name or native home is never revealed travels to 13 different countries to visit his friends and their families. The background being a map of the place being visited and there being bubbles of famous landmarks and the tour guide learning to do different activities common to the area with other kids and their families. I think it’s a good nonfiction book that takes a brief look at different countries around the world. These reports give a complete break-down of everything in the book, so you'll know just how clean it is or isn't.A Ticket Around the World is written by Natalia Diaz and Melissa Owens and illustrated by Kim Smith.

Children can be asked to put a sticker on a map of all the places they have been or on a place they would like to go, giving a summary of each of the places. These countries include Costa Rica, India, Morocco, Greece, Canada, Brazil, France, Botswana, China, Philippines, Australia, United States, and Jordan. This book is special to develop in first grades in elementary school, it is a great tool to work through reading aloud themes such as diversity, culture, traditions, geography, language, and fauna, through compare and contrast as an instructional idea. Some students do not have the opportunity to experience different cultures because of various readers.

This is an information type book as the boy tells the reader many interesting facts and information about each of the places he visits. I would love to do a whole unit of the diversity of the world, focusing on the places included in the book. Along the way, each friend introduces us to their country's environment and customs, and shares interesting facts about their country’s culture, language, food, geography, wildlife, landmarks and more. This informational picture book brings engaging nonfiction content to younger readers by showing them how other children live around the world. Diaz and Owens supplement the boy’s descriptions with introductions to each nation (“Jordan is ruled by a monarchy, which means that the king or queen in charge makes important decisions for the country”) and sidebars.

For a classroom activity, students could be placed in groups based on the countries or areas of the world that are visited in the book. It gives information about the animals that live there, the food the people from that country eat, and their culture. Whatever you dream of doing, and wherever you dream of going, the Star Alliance Round the World fare is your ticket to travel the world.Within the travels, we learn about each country's language, climate, wildlife, landmarks, and traditional food. The illustrations of Kim Smith are world-class and the lively depictions of each country bring the narrative to life, engaging the readers and creating an immersive reading experience. I liked that the pages feel friendly and they’re not too busy and over-stimulating with information and illustrations (everything is nice and neat). The only reason I think that is because of all of the facts and there are a lot of words on each of the pages. Response to Two Professional Reviews: Booklist says that it is inviting, thought provoking questions at the end make it engaging and I agree. This is a great book elementary students who have a more advanced reading level as there are many words on the page in different locations. I would also think about the translations and how this author received information about those particular languages that she presented. As the detailed illustrations provide helpful context, I would recommend this book be used in second to fourth grade classrooms. I really loved this book I thought it was a really good length but also contains lots of good information. This gives the reader a world tour via his first-person narration as he samples foods, views landmarks, and attends cultural events, among other activities. A Ticket Around the World will leave readers feeling like they’ve toured the globe without ever having left home.
