About this deal

The new gnarly star of the Scottish Noir scene, McCoy fits the archetypal mould of the flawed protagonist.

People always think that Glasgow is a poor town, but there has always been a level of glamour too, a wealthy strata, and I though there’s be an interesting contrast looking at those two sides of it. His debut novel Bloody January was shortlisted for the Grand Prix de Littérature Policière, February’s Son was nominated for an Edgar Award, Bobby March Will Live Forever was picked as a Times Best Book of the Year, won a Prix Mystère de la Critique Award and won an Edgar Award.

Things were very different during my own childhood and – though much of the behaviour of those in power (not to mention, men towards women) is (in retrospect? The old one, though, is still in focus: indeed, short of a Tardis, says John Niven, this book is the best way of getting back to Seventies Glasgow. Pretende ser policía, pero se mueve entre los dos mundos sin decidirse por ninguno y se pasa todo el día bebiendo en sucios antros. The graft and corruption in which Harry dabbles is in fact commonplace and it’s quite shocking to those who didn’t live through those years. Detective Harry McCoy is convinced it wasn't a random act of violence, and he guessed correctly, so, with his new partner Wattie, he begins an investigation that will take him from the brothels in the less salubrious areas of this city to a secret society run by one of the wealthiest families in Glasgow.

As virtual civil war raged between Azerbaijanis and Armenians, the Kremlin on Monday declared a state of emergency and sent units of the Soviet army, navy and KGB security service to the troubled southern region, where the Kremlin said attempts were being made "to overthrow Soviet power. With his new partner in tow, McCoy uses his underworld network to lead the investigation but soon runs up against a secret society led by Glasgow's wealthiest family, the Dunlops. As Harry endures beating after beating, his heart and personal morality will not allow him to give up on trying to get some form of justice for the rising tide of the dead.

A blistering plot, unforgettable characters and writing so sharp it's like it's been written with a knife: what more could you ask? For another, the job she turns out to have been hired for—leading an investigation her new boss doesn’t feel he can entrust to his own force—makes her queasy. The April Dead was shortlisted for the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year and May God Forgive won the McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year 2022. January 1973 first brought a promotion to Detective Harry McCoy of Glasgow police, but then things wrecked havoc. With a newbie partner in tow, McCoy uses his underworld network to build a picture of a secret society run by Glasgow’s wealthiest family, the Dunlops. As soon as the Dunlops come out, you can see what it's all about and you already sense a very familiar plot and a predictable ending.

Fans of McIlvanney's Laidlaw books and Oliver Harris' The Hollow Man, Ian Rankin's and Dennis Lehane's fiction, and TV shows like Idris Elba's Luther will find themselves thoroughly satisfied here. It tried to initially assess the 20 January events and adopted some documents condemning the crackdown operation by the Soviet army. The memorial depicts a group of people who are determined not to miss armed troops coming into the city, with some of them already fallen. His boss Murray seems to have it in for McCoy but there was also a real sense of some level of mutual respect and understanding going on. Showboat Medical Examiner Margot Heavner makes it clear that, breaking with her department’s earlier practice ( The Bone Collection, 2016, etc.

As more victims pile up, clues from their unseemly murders point incongruously to the highly respected Dunlops, an affluent and influential Glasgow family with deep investments in construction and factories.
