About this deal

We watched vendors prepare them in their street stall and it looked easy enough: sieve the tapioca, sprinkle a handful of the flour in a hot, dry frying pan, top it with sweet or salty toppings, and there you go.

We used to go camping a lot as a family when I was a child and this Coleman camping oven would have been amazing to have! We can't think of any reason why this set up wouldn't work, they are designed to sit on top of a flat top gas stove, so as long at there aren't trivets that will stop the oven sitting over the burner then you should be ok. Falling under one of my 3 pillars of successful overland travel, “good food”, the Coleman Camp Oven may be the next item we add to our Overland loadout. Thermometer on door is not calibrated, but there’s an adjustment screw on the back of the door, so will have a go at adjusting next time.I lay an oven thermometer on top of oven and can see it through hole of parka, gets to 425 degrees in 15 mins. Many web posts talk about uneven heating in the Coleman, and the lack of insulation may be the reason. We made 2 pans of brownies, 2 of corn bread, 4 of chocolate chip muffins, and a perfect 8 x 8 of toll house cookie. It is also important to remove the oven from on top of the burner before extinguishing the flame when using on a gasoline or kero stove, or the residual unburnt vapors are liable to taint the baked goods. The Backpackers Pantry “Parka’ is much smaller in diameter then Camp Chefs “dome”, which makes it easier to center on camper burners.

Funny, we have exactly the same discussions about every additional item in our camper and the Coleman oven has been sitting in the back of the van for about two weeks now – we still haven’t used it. A simple single burner will work for this oven, but I would use a wind guard with the set up to ensure even and steady heat. I found that if I used this closest to my camper in the stove that connected to the camper on the side, that it stayed hot better and heated faster, thank you for following a long! Baking brownies, biscuits, potatoes, and warming up rolls for your burgers brings a different dimension to outdoors cooking. When first unboxing the oven, I was pretty surprised at how compact it folds up for storage and travel. It might be a tricky balance of replacing coals to get it to hold at a good temperature, but it's certainly worth a try. I'd not use one over a canister stove due to potential overheating the butane canister but I have used them over a Nova and a 413G Coleman twin burner. The dutch oven made of heavy cast iron excels for things like biscuits, breads, baked beans, chili, stews, corn bread, cobblers, pizza, anything really that is normally baked in a conventional home oven. Most folks put some sort of heat diffusing material in the bottom such as a piece of plate steel, a cast iron griddle or even a pizza stone.

The main consideration would be temperature control, which is really important with the Coleman stove because it doesn't have a huge amount of insulation to regulate temperature on its own. I also use two thin fire bricks, like for a wood burning stove, on the floor of the oven and that really helps hold and regulate the heat.So if you are backpacking, bikepacking or riding on a motorcycle, you probably don’t want to have this beast with you. The wagons resident beater 421d handles the heat requirements beautifully, and whilst I've never measured fuel consumption when roasting, its never been a worry. com, the Sell on Etsy app, and the Etsy app, as well as the electricity that powers Etsy’s global offices and employees working remotely from home in the US.

I moved the shelf to the very top and put foil then baking paper down and let the temperature climb slowly to the required 200°C, judged by thermometer not indicator. The Coleman Camp Oven is just right for making muffins, cinnamon rolls, pizza, a pan of brownies or other little treats at the campground. We got fed up doing that every morning and the whole plan was abolished after a couple of weeks or months. The second point to make is that the temperature maxed out at 200°C in those conditions and that's on one of the most powerful burners around. In this manner we can sort of create our own whole-wheat/multi-grain version by combining the two, plus a number of other ingredients. When there is wind we bake inside the Land Cruiser, putting the stove on a wooden cutting board to protect the storage compartment lid from the heat. I was very good able to bake some bread on a windy day on Corsica last September without the temperature inside the oven was going up and down all the time.
