About this deal

Fast forward a bit later in the story and Prem and Kareena found themselves at the same restaurant and immediately after sharing a few drinks, having a long conversation, they proceeded to have a little make out session which then abruptly ended, and Kareena was left in an embarrassing situation. I not only fell in love with the characters, and culture, but I found it so easy to connect to it too which is everything I love in a book. Maybe I got a little carried away and gave some semi spoilers by summarizing some important facts of the book.

This story really showcased different things from growing up in a immigrant household, being the older sibling and trying to meet to expectations of parents, finding love, and more. Lá ela conhece Prem e eles conversam por três horas seguidas, até que o Prem desaparece e ela fica pensando “e lá se foi a minha chance de conhecer, me apaixonar e casar com alguém legal”.This is literally perfect in every aspect whether its writing style, plot, characters, pacing, EVERYTHING. Nisha Sharma has written a great story here with the Shakespearean classic, Taming of the Shrew, as the backbone of the story. Dil has all the feels of a “woe is me” tale, but then it shifts to “I can do anything I set my mind on. Even though they have conflicting views on love-matches and arranged-matches, the more time Prem spends with Kareena, the more he begins to believe she's the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.

If you're interested in learning more about the genesis of the story, here is a Dear Reader letter to share some insight. The author tried hard to make it look like she was demolishing stereotypes, but in my opinion, she just ended up reinforcing these stereotypes. Going into Kareena’s personality and character, I think the main reason why I loved her, and why so many other brown readers have loved her as well, is because of her no B. Sometimes the words are hard to say, because you're so scared that something will happen to the person you care about if you say them. Her books have been included in best-of lists by the New York Times , Entertainment Weekly , Cosmopolitan , The Washington Post , Time Magazine and more.

Often fictional families are depicted as perfect or absolutely horrible, but that's not how things really are. When her widowed father announces he’s retiring and selling their home after her sister’s engagement party, Kareena makes a deal with him. She does this all on her own, but also with the help of her aunties, who all consider her as their own after her mother’s passing.

Now they should fake their relationship because Prem needs to fix his tarnished reputation and Kareena needs a fiancée to convince her father to give the money he saved for her marriage to pay for their family house which has sentimental value for her.
